Where do you recommend I begin?

I read another post today about cleaning and whether or not people actually spring clean. As I explained in my reply, we don't really take on any big cleaning projects at my house, but it is definitely needed. I think my main issue is that I'm not sure where to begin. There are just so many things that I could do, I'm not sure if I should make a list and think about all the things that need done and decide where to start on the list or what. What do you think I should do? Make a list or just start room by room? Do you do anything special when it's time to take on a big cleaning project?

I'd start room by room and start from the bottom up. If it helps you can make a list of where to start. Or maybe it's from the top down.... Hmmm..... I've done it so many ways it's not funny. But now that I think of it from the top down so you can get everthing cleaned from the top without messing up what you've already cleaned. lol What I do to take on a big project I star observing what it is that needs done. And start removing everything to clean it then replace it. And if you need to clean behind something then move everything to one side of the room, clean that area, and move everything back. Then repeat with the other side of the room.

I never make a list of what cleaning projects I need to do..I know what I need to do, just don't always have the motivation to do it..LOL. I have to admit I've gotten a tad lazy about cleaning...not that my place looks like a wreck..heehee..actually very organized but I still need to just go through things and get rid of stuff I no longer want or need...who knows..might tackle clearing and cleaning up and out the one closet tomorrow.

I spring clean every year. I have to. I have three cats and my house can get very messy because of those three cats.

Sometimes I start with a closet. And clean out each closet, so that I have plenty of room to store things. Once I'm finished with the closet and have ample storage room, then I go around the house looking for things that are out of place and put them in bins or boxes in the closet. Then I deep clean one room at a time. We do wall cleaning and remove spider webs, dust wall smudges etc. I have to deep clean each room about once every two months. When I get the walls painted, everything won't require so much intense cleaning. As is, the wall paint needs refreshing and gets dirty very easily.

I have the same dilemma as I am a pack rat and have a 5 bedroom house to declutter. It is so overwhelming and it seems like I am not making any progress.. I just try to keep plugging along one room at a time and getting rid of old stuff I don't need any more. It really is a great feeling once a room is done, but I procrastinate like you wouldn't believe. Everyday life seems to get in the way of cleaning projects. I have 4 kids and they take up a lot of the day especially now that they are on vacation...

I usually start in my bedroom and the closets because it seems everything gets tossed into the closets to be hidden away till they are cleaned again and my bedroom and the extra bedroom seems to be a catch all that doesn't really belong anywhere. I watched several cleaning shows and it stated if you haven't wore it in 6-12 months then toss it or give it away unless it is seasonal. And that goes for everything else if you haven't used it in 6-12 months then also get rid of it unless it is seasonal like decorations and such because if you can go 6-12 months without it you don't need it. I always have problems cleaning my closets though because i have clothes that don't fit but I am trying to get back into. Now if I get rid of them then I will need them if I ever do get back into them.. But just start room by room it is easier that way...well it is for me.

I just kind of start in one room and it expands on and on. Usually I start with the bathroom because I hate cleaning the toilet and tub and I know if I don't start there it will be hard to do later. When I do a deep spring cleaning I usually start with the curtains so they can have time to dry while I clean everything else.

Angel when you look at the house as a whole and all of the things that you need to do, the task can be daunting and overwhelming there fore it might not get done as we often will put it off. What I do is start with one corner of a room, or one closet. One task. then when that is done I move out further in that room, maybe clean one wall. Don't look at the big picture. Look at one little part, and pretty soon you have cleaned a whole room and can move on to the next, and one corner in that area.

hello there, i do the general cleaning whenever i feel like it or if we have a big guest coming over BUT often i do it like every other 3 months. i prefer to do a list so i can see which one is important and which one needs more attention than the other. we dont have a big place so it is not a problem. i usually starts with what is the hardest and longest room to start in so i dont get too tired doing the small ones as i feel it is best that way. but you can also do the cleaning even without a list, if this is the case in me i usually starts at the bathroom (master's bathroom) then the closet (rearranging everything hehe) and then follow on the whole master's bedroom then living room then kitchen then laundry room then guest room's bathroom then guest's room con hubby's office then guest room's closet lastly the porch there is my routine LOL good luck on your cleaning make sure you wipe the top of the doors i said this coz my hubby will always test the top doors and make sure i did really clean it haha. takecare

Spring Cleaning means stuff like getting a fresh coat of paint on the walls or things like that to me. Dunno how the weather is there but it's a bit late to do that here now with the humidity. Anyway if there are big projects that are needed then why not tackle them one at a time? Start your list and when you think of something else just add to it. Start at the top and work your way down. Don't overdo it but do have a look at your list regularly. Make sure to cross off the things you have done. Now if these things on your list are projects that are recurring it's best to have that list on your computer so you can print it out again when you need to. Start at the top. If a project is big or needs some organisation or money to implement it, and that isn't around straight away, move it to another place on your list. Maybe even put a date by the projects so you'll have some sense of when you want/need things to be done.
