We have been looking for a puppy for my son for a few months now without much luck. Today I went on Craigs List and found the most adorable chihuhua puppies. They want $150 for them. Do you think this is a good price? Would you pay that much for a puppy? Here is a picture. It will definitely make you say YES!

Firstly I am not a doggie person myself, so I try not to be too biased, I don't like paying for animals, not in that respect, don't get me wrong I am not putting down people who breed them, but you have to be so careful don't you about the breeding and if they are looked after and if the animal's welfare is put first and foremost before money. So many people use animals as a way of earning money. That's why I prefer to go to animal rescue centres where you know they are looked after and they desperately need homes and animals there are not bred for a profit. That's my two penneth worth but hey if your son is happy then that is the most important thing isn't it! I hope he gets his pup and ok they do look adorable I admit from the photo my friend!

Aren't they cute? I actually am not really pet friendly either, but the dog we have now has helped to change my mind. The reason that they are asking for the fee is to cover the cost of the c-section the mother of the pups had to have.

$150 is very good price compare to puppy here.
But does the dog have cert/paper?
Normally ChiHuaHua cost around $250 for no-paper,
and will cost around $700 for the one with paper.

sounds like a fair price, but chihuahau's are very tempermental dogs and not recommended for children.

What you have to look for is not only price for dogs, but also to know what to except from small dog size.
Very small dogs are having some health problems.
I would check more info on line.
Also, check if puppies are clean.
You may have to start with $70 for fleas control, huge bill for vet and so on...
Some people sell sick animals and this is something you don't need and want.
I have 2 dogs and I help in shelter.
You need to be very careful when buying dogs from unknown sources.
Also, ask if those puppies are chihuhua or chihuhua mixed...
Price for chihuhua is from $300 to $750....it makes me think...

that is a great price!!! i paid $1000 for my yorkie. i think $150 is cheap to get a life long friend and new family member. I would just recommend that you make sure they have all the paper work on the dog. the dog has had all the shots needed to be sold, and it has no health problems. if this person sells a few puppies a year that makes them a breeder and they have to do that for you.
good luck with the doggie, I hope you all have years and years of love and great memories

I feel that the price is good for the puppy. They have usually had their first check up and their first shots. Also their papers are in order. I have paid $250 for each of the min-pins.
If you love the puppy and he is just what you have been searching for then no amount is too much. I just love puppies, they are so adorable.

Any breeder asking for only $150 is only another backyard breeder who does no health tests on the parents and in my opinion they're not worth the money. You really do get what you pay for. If you want to take the risk with a puppy whose parents have had no health-tests, no show results and the puppies get little to no socialization, get taken from the mom and littermates too early and with no papers, that's your choice (but I think you should go to a rescue or shelter instead of supporting a backyard breeder if that's the route you want to take).
I waited over one year and paid 1000 euros for my pup and I would happily pay that again for my second dog simply because that way I know I get a healthy temperament-sound dog with a good background. But everyone has different priorities and spend their money differently. I only know getting a backyard bred puppy is not a risk I'd ever take.

hi k.
do the puppies have vaccine shots already? do they have papers? are they sired from a winning/championship line? if you answered "no" to any of these three questions, then i'm afraid $150 is too much. anyway, its your money and ultimately, it's your decision that will count.
good luck on the pups. i'm sure your son will like the gesture and the puppies as well.

They are so sweet, that is a good price, I have bigger dogs one cost me £500, and the other £800 that was 12yrs ago and eight years ago. I prefer bigger breads as my mother had a chihuhua and he was very snappy. When we where kids he would round us up and keep us hostage as he knew we were frightened he would bite us. lol

Chihuahua dogs are very cute, but I agree with some of the other responders. They are not usually good with children. They tend to be the kind of dog that attaches itself to one favorite person to be mommied by. I have seen chihuahuas go into frenzied barking, running around and jumping when anyone other than their owner is around.
The price isn't bad.
There are shelters with dogs that charge about $125 for dogs because they are spayed or neutered and have been given shots, so you are paying for that.
I was recently volunteering at a shelter where there was a wonderful golden retriever and he loved to chase after a ball. He looked so beautiful and was so happy playing and I thought how he would be a wonderful dog for a boy to play with.
I don't see a chihuahua as a big ol' huggable, squeezable, baseball chasing dog for a boy. A chihuahua would be more for a woman who wants a baby to hold.
Sorry, that's my opinion.

Oh no - I hope you did not buy the puppy. A real chi is much more expensive than that - if you want he name of a real, good breeder, I can give you that - (we have a beautiful chi from her one of her litters.) - Let me know if you want the breeders name or it you want a picture of our chi.
