Been to the library to day

June 7, 2008 6:47am CST
to take back the books that I read while my computer was broken and to reserve another book and take some out. I felt greedy taking out 6 books, I thought we could only take out 5, so asked before she scanned them through. turns out you can take up to 15 books out!! I dont think I would be able to carry 15 books home!! Also I prefer to take out some books, return them and then get some more out!! Just in case I lose them and end up with a big hefty fine!! I now have a bag to keep all my library books in so that they dont get lost!! Whats the most books you have taken out from your library at once??

I used to always be in the library, I used to go once a week and I would take 8 books out. That was the limit then, I would read all those 8 books by the following week and would go back for more! I got to the point where I had literally read all the books of my interest in there and so had to start going to the charity shops to look for more. Then I had more children and so the time that I had to read became less and less until eventually I stopped for a while. I have just recently started to read again and will be joining our local library again, but I doubt I will be taking 8 or more books out as I just do not get that time anymore!

Wow, 8 books in a week!! I just managed 3 books in a week. Our library, if you ask them for a book they will check to see if its another library and when it becomes free, they will reserve for you. Send it to your local library and post you a letter to say it arrived which is easier than trawling around various libraries!!! Hopefully the library will have new books from when you were last there so you have a couple of months reading!! Happy readings xx

When I read 8 books a week I was a single parent unable to afford to go out very much. No computers back then really either not like now, so reading was my way to escape the loneliness of a night time. I am reading a book at the moment called "The other Boleyn girl" have you read it? It is a fantastic read and I am absolutely hooked on it. I read it to my daughter when I put her to bed and she sits silent through it as if she picks up on the excitement in my voice!

As a former library worker I am also an avidreader, and usually take out six or seven paper backs as I am a fast and voracious reader. I am on a special program for senior citizens at our branch library and since they all know me as I worked there for twenty three years I have six weeks in which to read my books.I retired from our library two years ago but keep in touch with all my friends 'there.

Hi Hatley. I think it's wonderful that you keep in touch with all your friends at the library where you used to work. After having access to a really nice main library and 3 branch libraries where I used to live, it was a real letdown coming back to the library in my hometown. Where I used to live, there were new books that became available frequently and many wonderful authors to chose from. I could spend hours at the main library there. In my hometown library, there are still the same old musty books that were here 13 years ago. I was very surprised to see that there are no Beverly Lewis books. I love her books. The availability of new books is very limited. I guess I was spoiled by bigger library system. I'm going to have to participate in the book of the month discussion. I think it would be very interesting to hear other people's different views on the same book.

cinderella, you just reminded me of when we were younger, we lived in Texas and every summer my mother would take to the library. She always had us reading. We use to walk over the library and get all kinds of books. We would do this once a week. I'm thinking maybe we use to get around 5 to 6 book each visit. The last time I went to the library was about 3 years ago. I love to read, and I also asked how many books can I check out and she told me 15. As thick as the book were I knew I could finish them in a week, I only took around 4.

Over here it's 16 but that includes cd's or dvds you might take out but you can take 16 books. I used to work there and we could take out 25. My card was always full. I take out about 6 -8 now.

How long did it take you to read those 25 books?? I think I would easily lose all those books if i took them out in one go!!

I usually just take two out at a time..then if i let them go over the return date the fine wouldnt be too hefty!!lol...but they have introduced a telephone renewal service here now,so you can just phone up and renew them ..I dont know if you can do that where you are,but any more than two and it would take me too long to read them anyway!!
7 Jun 08
Yeah you can renew your books by phone and email but the library is only open daft hours, so trying to pop in on my days off is a pain!!

it seems the library always has enough book to lend out. while, nowadays i prefer to borrow few books since i had a computer. if i take lot of books back, i will return them at the deadline without reading them at all for lack of time. and some reading is on computer.

I've taken 10, that was the maximum at the time and I was only little so they were quite small, I don't know if I read them all, or if I just found out you were allowed up to 10, so took 10 just because I could.

You are lucky to have a library where you can take out and reserve books too! Where I live they have a few (small) libraries, but people dont visit them much. I think most people prefer to buy the books they are going to read, so maybe that is the reason why libraries are not as popular, which is a pity.

We can check out as many books as we want here. When I go I usually get about a dozen, and give them back a few days later.

Every time I come to the library and they have new books I can't choose 1 book so I take a lot of them. But I can borrow a book only for a month so I take not more than 5 books at once.

cinderella_ I try to find two or three paperbacks and the same amount in non-fiction. I can handle all six as long as I'm careful. But, the most books I ever brought home was 30! and that was years ago. I had three little kids, each with their own library card. They were allowed ten books each. That was a tough load to carry. We spent the week reading all 30 books, returning them the next Saturday for 30 more! We never lost track of one.
