college vs. high school

After completing the first year of college, the student can see a great difference between college life and high school life. I have been out of school for a month, having just completed my first year in college. I'm now back at that same college, preparing to start working a full-time job for the summer. That alone is a difference between the two lives of students. I'm also a music major. I was warned as I started my freshman year of college that music majors tend to look as if they are from desolate lands. I finally realize how true that statement is. In high school, being in music is just something you truly enjoy doing. In college, being in music is your life. You have no room for anything else. Add in a second major, and you really have no life whatsoever. So, differences I've noticed: 1. you can work at your college - not so much at your high school 2. your involvement with music in college is your life - in high school, it's just something you have fun with. 3. college means having to wake yourself up - you have a safety net with living at home in high school: your parents can make sure you're up 4. parents aren't going to call you constantly asking "have you got your homework done yet?" when you're in college 5. if you're at a lucky college, you have no curfew...meaning you can stay out until 4 in the morning and have nothing to worry about 6. procrastination is 10 billion times worse in college...you have no one forcing you to do what you need to do. Anyone wish to add other differences you've noticed so far?

You've pretty much hit the nail on the head, so-to-speak. The only things I would add are: 1) There really isn't much homework, unlike high school. Your grade really depends on 3-5 tests. 2) Teacher (professors) are not there to help you along. If you want to fail, so be it. 3) A lot more is riding on college than was high school. If you do poorly in high school, you may not get into Harvard, but there is still time to clean up your act and get into a GREAT school later. That's about it for now. I'll probably think of more the second I post this...

I hadn't thought of the not much homework thing.... I had a ton of homework last school year. haha. And several tests. Unfortunately, that area of study is the same as it was in high school

Oh really? What field of study is that? Yeah, my classes have all had minimal amouts of homework. Mostly set up in the 5 tests 1 final-exam format. I like it that way though...
