Do you donate your blood?

I think it's important that we all help those who we may never meet. When is the last time you gave blood? Do you know your blood type in case of an emergency? Mine is A+. Giving blood is also rewarding, some blood banks even give you gift certificates to restaurants for donating again and again. Check it out for your city or town. Give the gift of life.

Mine is either A+ or -, it's the opposite of whatever my mom's is because they had to give her shots when she was preggers with me so her body didn't reject me. I can't give blood because I don't weigh enough. They won't let me.

I have the same problem. If I am the same blood type as my little one though, I do think I could donate if she ever needed it.

I have never donated blood but have been meaning to do it. I know it is a good thing to do to save lives, etc. I would love to find out if they offer gift certificates or something, that would be nice. I have no fear of needles so that isn't a problem. Hopefull I will be able to and not run into any problems like others do sometimes. I do know my blood type though, I am A+ just like you!

I would love to, but cannot. I tend to pass out. But I do support those who can and do. Like my hubby. He gives frequently. I hope my daughter will be able to.

You should think about it. Yes, giving blood is good for your body, it gives it a chance to make new blood cells for healing.

LOL! If someone is not good at their job, I am a hard stick too. I have good veins, all I can say is that I can sense a vampire so I don't hand out blood to just anybody [P

I have never been able to donate blood.I'm not afraid of blood but I just never have the chance and I think I will never have since I have some physical problem. I admire those who give blood for the sake of helping others and the essence of giving something that others don't have the chance to do so like me. But I despise those who donate blood just for the sake of money. Even though they help those in need the thought of having this kind of motive is a bit sad.

I didn't mean to make it sound like people wouldn't give if there wasn't a prize to be had, its just an incentive that some blood banks in the USA offer.

I challeneged myself to give blood a number of years ago, and have done it fairly regularly since, despite being terrified that first time. It's still not something I enjoy doing, but so far I've not collapsed in a heap so I'm a bit more confident these days! I think the last time I went was around Christmas time so I'm due to go again but I've not been around for a session for a while. In the UK they provide you with tea and biscuits afterwards. My son likes to go with me as the ladies in charge of the refreshments normally let him loose on the biscuit tin. What little boy wouldn't enjoy that combination? Watching blood and needles followed by unlimited biscuits!

I've never gave blood, but I would like to, I've been on the receiving end before, and I would like to encourage everyone to give blood if they can. My blood type is B- and they say that is really rare, I think the only other person in my family that has the same type I do, is one of my sisters, but I'm not sure if she would give me any if I needed it..lol. I had heart surgery 7yrs ago and I was anemic so I had to have 4 pints of blood before the surgery, I'm glad that someone was willing to give it, to help save another persons life. I always thought I couldn't give, because I'm diabetic also, but I know other diabetics that give all the time. Guess I'll have to check it out..

I donated blood already once. That was when I was still working in a department store in the Philippines. One of our loyal customers asked help for his son who has cancer. We are only 3 in the whole store who has the same blood type (AB) but only me who went to the blood bank to donate blood. That was long time ago. But I am willing to donate my blood if someone needs it...

Giving blood is the only sort of charity realated thing that I do. I'm not the most charitable person. My logic with the blood is that if one day I need it, then if I've been giving regularly then there is more likely to be some that I can use. Of course for this to work, there needs to be many more people with my blood type giving blood as well but at least I'm contributing. I know that my blood type has to be O because both of my parents are O but I don't know my rhesus factor.

I can't emphasize how important it is to donate blood because i use to work at a hospital. You would be surprised how many people that come in and want to get paid for it. but i look at it this way if i was dying and needed blood would you donate for me. I would donate for anyone in a heart beat. Some people in this world need to think of others than themselves because you never know what to happen to anyone. I dont think being paid is the way to go you should feel proud of yourself that you could help someone out that should be enough of an award.

I need to check and see if there is any reason that I can not donate. I don't think there is but have some health issues so I would have to see. My granddaughter gave blood day before yesterday. She is 18 years old. Who knows but what the blood you give might go to save a family member or a friend but even if that is not the case, it will go to help someone else.

I used to donate blood regularly - but now I have antibodies in it, and can't. This was due to them giving me a transfusion which went wrong. My three daughters all donate, though - so hopefully that makes up for me not doing it.

Too bad that you can't because of that transfusion, but I'm glad you encourage your daughters to give.
