If you want him to break his habit, force him to get up. Make a lot of noise, do whatever it takes not to give him that five minues of sleep. He'll thank you when he starts getting to work on time and breaks that habit.

Set the alarm clock 15 minutes fast and give him his extra five after the alarm rings.

It is very bad when it happens. I used to be like that and it inevitably got me in trouble at school too. I had to learn fast how to get up really early so as not to be late for school. When I lived in the Yoga House we would wake up at 4am and take a bath and do our morning duties. There is no time for sleeping a little late because everyone is already up and preparing for the coming day. That was very good training.

Yes, I also need at LEAST five more minutes. Actually my snooze alarm gives me 9 minutes, so it is more like 9, 18, or 27 minutes! If I do not have anywhere to go, I could just turn the alarm off and go back to sleep for an hour or two. I'm not sure how you could get him out of the habit. Setting the alarm earlier could help, as far as getting to work on time. Eventually, though, he will probably compensate for that. Maybe he's not getting enough sleep, and so he is just overly tired in the morning. Going to bed earlier could fix that. I know that no matter how much sleep I get, though, that I will never just bounce out of bed...I need that extra time to "wake up".

Was he always exhausted before going off to sleep? Setting the alarm at least 15 minutes before your get-up time might help but that'll will only solve the tip of the iceberg. Maybe you can try to sleep at a much earlier time. Say 1 or 2 hours earlier. This will enable you to sleep longer and ready when the alarm clock goes off.
