Today i confronted my parents because i wanted to get a new GTA. they aid that video gams are the number 1 reason why our society is so violent. i argued that there is no way video games are number 1 due to all the war thats happening in our world today. she thought i was being ridiculous! i argueed that if somebody was riased properly, they will not be affected by these types of video games because they aleady know what is rigth and what is wrong. she said that they change how we are subconsiously and they can controll what we are like. she thinks that people will become addicted to the many negative things included if i bought this game. who else thinks my mother is being totally ridiculous?

I think you need to present them with statistics. Check with The American Psycholical Association or the American Pedeiatric Society and search "video games." I think the findings might greatly surprise your folks. I grew up in an age where our video games were atari or the arcade. There was a Fringe society of Dungeons and Dragons players, role playing games. Some of these kids got addicted and did stupid things. In video games or role playing, it is no one's fault. The human brain is an amazing thing. What affects someone a certain way will not affect another person the same way. Can I presume that your mom gets newsletters from propogandized sites. It seems such. YOu need to turn them on to realistic sites. the two above as well as the CDC are good starts. Just assert yourself, but be mature in your delivery. Any thinking person will see what you are saying. Good luck

Yeah it affects if we got no brains or a newly born baby brain in a 16yr old teenager. Frankly speaking if someone's got such problems then that person should be in mental asylum and not playing video games at home. So basically ur termed a teenager or adult coz ur mind grows n gets matures with time, so we got a thinking brain, rite, we know the difference between pulling off those hiflying stylish fighting moves ingame and the life in real . So if ur mom thinks ur intelligent enough to know the difference then she will let u go ahead n play. just tel this to ur parents

There was a time when people thought Rock 'n Roll music would turn us all into addicts and morons. The older generation is always looking for something to blame. It's not video games, rap, tv or any one thing. I think the game is rated "M" for mature, so, if you're old enough, go and buy it.

Sorry, I can't totally agree with you that she is being ridiculous. That particular video game is not allowed in our house. Sorry but there is something wrong with wanting to play a video game where you can shoot cops, for the fun? of it. And I won't say it's the number one cause of violence, but add it to the list of movies, tv shows, news, etc. that shows violence as something great, and it is a cause for a lot of our society leaning toward being violent.

I don't see how she can blame video games for every singe act of violence seen as though video games haven't been around as long as violence has. We will possibly always live in a violent society. Video Games/Movies/Music/Books cannot be held responsible for a human beings actions. The aggression would have been there already. I'm a 26 year old female vegetarian librarian who loves the Grand Theft Auto series, I can't even drive so no robbing cars and shooting people for me in real life.

Whether video games are the number one cause of so much violence in our society, it's hard to tell, I personally think this is not true, because there's so much more graphic and pervasive depictions of violence elsewhere, such as on television. One thing I can say for sure, however: video games have at least partially desensitized our society to violence, making killings and other such things much less of a taboo subject. Once again, it's inconclusive if this creates more violence in America, but it certainly doesn't dissuade people from violence.

My kids have had nearly all of the GTA games, my eldest is 16 and has been playing all kinds of games since the age of about 7 and as of yet he has not gone out and committed violence or murder against anyone. I think to some children they are an influence, but only a small percentage and not to all.

Your mum is being ridiculous as games won't make you violent. It is just convenient for games to be blamed for what is wrong in soceity because no-one will admit to the real problems. I play a lot of violent games and do not have any urge to do anything that is in a game. You could say to your parents that you are disappointed in them that they think that you are so weak willed and immature to be affected by what is fiction. Will it be books, TV or films next that they think will corrupt you.

Look........Almost everything you see in movies and on tv or playing games is all violence. But the reverse psychology says that we would never attempt to kill anybody by just mere watching TV or playing games. If we do you are a psycho or lost your mind. Straight!

I don't think she is being ridicolous, and I think that society has affect on how we behave. If your brother gets killed by a gang member, you will probably join the rival gang for revenge. If your parents are alcaholics, chances are you will be one too.
