I don't really watch television programs

I prefer to read books. I still watch TVs from time to time but I never really take the initiative to put the plug on and select a channel. I watch because there's a program already running and I don't finish it anyway. I still go back to my readings. Anyone here who does the same?

I am an avid reader and an avid tv watcher. I find that the activity I choose depends on my mood. For example, if I'm in the mood for some peace and quiet, then I'll pick up a book. However, if I want to be visually stimulated, then I'll watch tv. For me, one activity can't replace the other. I agree that the quality of (some) tv shows are rapidly declining, but I have built up my dvd collection of favorite movies and tv shows to be able to watch over and over again. I also have built up my book collection only with books that I want to re-read. In today's society, though, I'm afraid that reading books has become less appreciated. Now that there are e-books and audio books, and of course the competition with tv and video games, people just sitting back and enjoying a good book are becoming rarer. This thought truly saddens me because reading books provide such great mental stimulation and I think help people become more articulate and well-versed.

When e-books became the norm, I used to read everyday in front of my pc. Downside was that my eyes get strained after a while. Plus I miss holding a real book, you know the feeling of flipping through the pages and the smell of a new book. I guess your balanced tv watching and book reading is a nice thing to follow. I think I'll try that out :) Thanks for sharing!

I read books and watch tv. Right now, there aren't a lot of tv shows I watch, but I'm very devoted to the ones I do. I don't really see tv and books as competing against each other. I just spent a few hours reading a new book because I didn't want to put it down until I got to the end. And, I'll re-read my old favorites tomorrow. And, watch DVD's of my favorite tv shows.

I don't see time spent in reading books and watching tv programs as a competition either. I am also not biased if some people prefer doing one over the other. I thought it would be great if I'll know someone who just prefers reading over watching. With my peers, I'm always usually the one who's like this and I would appreciate if anybody else were like me :) I don't want to sound self-righteous, just want to share interests with others.

I don't even have my TV hooked up. I prefer to read books, and use my computer.

Our tv's hooked up because my grandfather prefers to watch nowadays. Other than that, almost all of us in the house were into books or computer.

There aren't too many television programs that I really love to watch, but there are a few I like. I also read books quite a bit more than watching tv. I often have the tv on though, because I like having the background noise. I sometimes flip through channels when I'm bored and watch for awhile. There are one or two shows that I always want to watch when they are on, but other than those, I mostly prefer to read.

Wow. What's a book? I'm kidding, but I see where you're coming from. I do most of my reading online. I like a lot fan fiction stuff and I read books that people are in the process of being published. Plus I take the time to study up on my very own language classes. I'm learing about seven languages now online. I do have my selected TV shows that I can't stand to miss. Other than that I'm usually on the internet.

Wow! Seven languages? That's one good thing to spend your day :) Wow, I envy you! Yeah I used to read online too, or read an ebook either in my pda or pc but now I appreciate reading a real book.

I watch TV only when I am having my dinner. I prefer reading books and surfing on the Internet more than watching those low-quality-TV-programs.

But who knows, there might still be good shows out there. Someone just have to point that out to us :)
