Why do my kids keep getting sick?

I love being a mother more than life itself, but at the moment feel like a huge failure! My 2 boys have been sick for the last month (well for maybe a week in between) and now the youngest who is 16 months has a bad flu & the oldest who is 3 next month has pneumonia! I do everything I can to keep them warm & out of the cold air as the youngest is prone to ear infections & the oldest to croup & tonsilitis. I don't isolate them from other children & I know all children will get sick sometimes but it seems they are always sick & we are always at the doctors (which is expensive as we live 1/2 hour from any doctor or hospital). I know I am a good mum but am questioning myself right now...what is it I do wrong to make them get sick so much? What can I do to make them stop getting sick & get better fast. The medication the oldest is on for his pneumonia doesn't seem to be working very fast, but he is starting to eat a little today. Sorry for the rant but I needed to get it out!

You are not doing anything wrong. You do everything that you can do but there is no stoping the little bugs. I had the same thing with my son and we took out his tonsils and he is a brand new child something I would not have belived if someone said it to me 2 months ago. Also as I worked as a carer a lot of our clients got sick often and all the doctors told us it was because we over clean. We used to mop the floors 2 times a day and clean and wipe and desinfect a lot. They told us because they live in such clen inviroment they are not used to bacteria and viruses and all that. So there is an excuse for you to relax :). All the best with your little once hope they feel great soon.

If you want them gone (tonsils) you have to chase that a lot. Every time they are sick take them to the doctors ask them to see a specialist make it happen or they would never take them out. I swear that is the best thing we did for our son as he is a changed boy now he used to be sick every second week (keep him inside and as soon as he walks from the car to the house he would get sick, let him play outside he would come back home sick no matter what we did he got sick). So this is his 1 time he got sick since the operation 2 months ago so you can imagine the change in him. All the best. (hey maybe they have the same virus are you sure they never met my friend :))))

It's amazing how many people have had the same trouble with their children...and it's wonderful to know that I am not alone - but sad that so many children get so sick! I wish they would just take my boys tonsils out & get it over with, but for now we have to deal with him being ill until they will do something about it! Thankyou for your well wishes

I've not heard of this particluar product and I'm not trying to sell anything, LOL, but colloidal silver (which I'm going to assume that this is or has in it) is a great product, lots of positive qualities.

Hi. Our water is fine - actually it is great & they eat very well & I am very choosy what I buy. I have cleaned and cleaned the house so it is not that....they are just kids that catch things I guess. Thanks for your comment

It's just coïncidence, I bet you're a very good mother for your children. Little children (especially at such young age) aren't very immune to sicknesses. I bet they'll be fine in a couple of weeks. Maybe I can point out two of the most important things for staying healthy: 1) make sure your kids are getting enough sleep (at least 8 hours a night) 2) prepare good and healthy food for them (meat for proteines, potatoes for starch and vegetables for vitamines) (Also drinking is very important, a lot of water through the day and 1-2 glasses of milk every day.) Well, I'm not a medecin but I really think these things are important for kids. But stop blaming yourself girl, it really isn't your fault. Greetz

I'm sure its nothing you're doing. We rarely get sick and in March, all three of the boys AND me had strep and the flu at the same time. We all recovered, but my youngest has failed the antibiotics (4 times) and now needs to have his tonsils out...because his tonsils are now so large. My boys have chronic health conditions and long ago, I stopped blaming myself for their issues. We do the best we can, we're moms...its what we do! Hang in there!

Thankyou for your response...it's hard not to blame yourself isn't it. You just feel so helpless when they are sick!

I am a mother too and my son too gets sick sometimes. For children it is important to give them food that can help to strengthen their immune systems. Try giving them carrot and apple juice. I am sure they will love it and you can save money on medical bills.

I'm sorry your kids are sick but It's not your fault and i don't think its anything your doing. kids get sick a lot they more proven to it it seems. and I don't know if it'll help any but do your kids take vitamins? I used to always take the flintstone ones as a kid.. now i take centrum. if they don't take them now maybe they should start.. having a good immune system will help them to fight off any sickness.

My kids eat very well but I am going to put them on vitamins now & see if that helps. I really don't think they are lacking in anything because they eat so well, but you never know do you. Thanks

I am so sorry that your kids are unwell. Germs hide out indoors if you disinfect doorknobs, phone and every think else you can think of (even the toys)also keep every ones hands washed it may help cut down on the number of time they get sick.

Thanks, I make a point of disinfecting everything when one of us is sick, and we wash our hands religiously. Never can be too careful can you...but it doesn't help when youhave sick kids in bed with you! lol

I'm sure your a fine mom. Kids just get sick. They draw and attract germs like flies to honey. If you have more than one child you'll have more sickness, they like to share thier germs and catch stuff off each other. As they grow and get older they'll get sick less and less. My first son stayed sick too. He always had tonsillitis. My grandmother said 'Everytime the wind changes direction, Matt gets sick' and that's how it felt. Talk to their pediatrician and tell him how you feel. He can assure you your children are perfectly normal. My last child was seven months old when he developed pneumonia and ended up in the hospital. He hadn't been around any other kids.

Thankyou. It's amazing how they seem to pick up every little thing isn't it! I just don't understand how my 2 year old got pneumonia, but since he got it I have noticed it is not as uncommon as I thought. He seems to be a little better today, now I am hoping the 16 month old starts getting better too as hubby & I now have his flu!
