What are your views regarding the Philippines policy of moving the celebration of national holidays to the monday nearest its actual date of celebration? example June 12 is independence day but the celebration is on June 9.

If you mean to say that celebration starts from June 9 and ends on June 12 (or even beyond) it seems alright. But if you mean to say that June 12 is independance day and the celebration is only on June 9, it looks funny. Is there any specific reason for moving the national holidays to Monday? This also looks funny.

I'm kinda used to it. The main reason was for most workers (specifically government workers) to have a long weekend or successive-day offs. That's the positive side. The negative ones is the essence of the holiday itself. Just like today, it's a holiday. Technically. But we don't feel it. It's not independence day. It will be on Thursday. During the holiday, most can't celebrate it as they're in their offices.

Well for me moving the holiday has an advantage since for us workers it means longer weekends to be with the family. For employers also it means that the flow of the business is not at all disrupted at the middle of the week meaning there is continuous flow of transactions since holiday was moved to a day where weekends are. The holiday declarations are only moved the remembrance of the holiday is still commemorated on the day itself.

It's OK with me. Besides, that does not change June 12 as independence day, does it. The advantage of moving holidays close to weekends is that it gives us who are employed, more time for rest and recreation. An additional day of rest means one more day in France for me. =)

Though it shouldn't be because we should celebrate a holiday on its actual day, I like the idea of moving the celebration to either Monday or Friday to spend a longer weekend. Longer weekends means longer time to do more at home and for your other personal activities, longer time for the family. Sometimes, I also get lazy going to work after holidays when it falls in the middle of the week. So, that scheme of moving to Monday or Friday is good in my opinion.

The essence of the celebration is still on the exact date. anyway,we just have to get used to it while GMA is still the president.

Well having a holiday on the date of the celebration itself is quite different from having an extra day off a day or two before the actual date that we are supposed to be celebrating. When we have a holiday this monday, did anybody actually celebrate what we are suppose to be commemorating. Does your kids know, if you have any, why you have to stay at home that particular day? Is a simple Flag raising at school enough to pay homage to our supposed to be independence?

Is there any good that this holiday economics brought to us? Does family really make their bondings on moving of holidays to nearest Mondays? The present tenant of MalacaƱang has nothing but to ruin the true meaning of the holiday. Is there an independence day celebration today in Kawit, Cavite where they used to raise our flag?

He.he.he. That is normal to me since GMA became president.Almost all the holidays, she has her own declarations, change the effectivity, add new holidays, etc. No comment, she's the president.
