I think majority in our country is raging & raving mad
The fuel price has gone up by 41%, from RM1.92 to RM2.70 per litre now. A lot of things are expected to rise around 10% in prices. This is really a double combo hit as rice shortage in our country resulted in price hike of rice ( our staple food ) in early part of May!~
I wonder what next? Or should I just pass on that ( the wondering part )...hahaha

It's affecting Singapore a lot too. The oil prices here are already very expensive SGD1.833 to SGD2.379. Many Singaporeans drive to Malaysia to visit relatives/shopping/recreation. Now, with the price hike, shopping in Malaysia is no longer as cheap.

Zweeb do you know what these gas prices translate to in American dollars, I am just curious how our prices compare, we are at $4.00 a gal here in NC, and I know some states are even higher. Also our food prices have increased about 20 % in the past couple of months. The only thing not increasing is my pay check.

Here's the measurements:
USA
1US Gal = 3.78541178 litres = $4
1 litre = $1.0566882 X 3.2 = RM3.3814
Malaysia( Standardized in all states in West M'sia, East M'sia prices are higher )
1 litre = RM 2.70
So I guess your oil prices are still higher than ours due to our government subsidy. Heard it will end soon on March 2009 though. And yeah, the pay check really needs to rise, hahaaha

The fact is, we're all here because we want more money than our mainstay jobs give us. In fact, according to the Islamic Agency of Selangor (JAIS), RM 1,500 is considered the new poverty borderline. Whether you're single, or married with children, RM 1.5K is NO way to live.
So if you earn RM 2K, like me, from your main job, you're only an INCH away from poverty. I foresee quite a lot of people who will be murdered brutally by the fuel hike.
Thus, if anyone's interested in making more money during these rough times, do talk to me personally. These days, multiple sources of income are the norm, and no longer the exception.

Yeah I know that the oil price have come down a bit. I remembered I did hear that they say they'll go according to the fluctuation - that means it might swing either way
Well, as long as "politics" exist, the people will always suffer as nearly all politicians are out there to rake for themselves. They for got they were supposed to represent the people. When they go in there, some other lucrative things divert their attention & they stray from their original assignment - TO REPRESENT THE PEOPLE

You probably know this by now, but the current government's reduced our petrol prices from RM 2.70 per litre to RM 2.55 per litre. Still not good enough, though. And it feels more like a political decision, than one made out of concern for the people.
If we can get our fuel at RM 2.00 per litre, as Anwar mentioned, perhaps we can divert some of our efforts to research alternative sources of energy as well, so that we'll be prepared when stocks ARE limited.
But then again, that might or might not happen. What say you?
