well i like reading short stories more because it tends to give us a moral..they are also not time consuming. i find it quite dissapointing that writers of short stories are not recognised as the authors of novels. I also like reading novels,i do enjoy but after reading it i tend to get very much involved in that.. what is your opinion? which one is better-short stories or novels?? are both good??? Are both time wasting?? please write what you think.... thank you.

I love reading.I like to read novels and I alos like reading short stories. If I read a novel I like to sit at it at a stretch which is not possible with all the house- hold work. But when its a short story quickly i can finish of many stories.I cant zero in on one since I enjoy both.

I like to read both, it depends on my mood and my attention span at the time. If my life is very stressful and I don't think I can concentrate on a book for a long period of time then I read short stories. But if I really want to get involve with a character then I read a novel.

I prefer novels especially those by John Grisham, Virginia Andrews and Sydney Sheldon. In novels the story is not compacted like in short stories and you get a feel of the drama, suspense or action. I like writing short stories and not reading them. I wouldn't really say novels are time consuming , reading one is actually time well spent.

i dont read but i prefer novels to short stories since anytime i read short stories i alays am let down because of lack of time to put in enough detail that i think the story should have.. i think the only person i know of that got any reconition from short stories was stephen king.. which is kind of funny because some movies were made from his short stories which i would think they would have rather had a novel because of the detail.. oh well

I read both of them. I prefer novels because the characters tend to be well developed and you can get really into it, which i believe as a hallmark of a good novel when readers really get into it. I don't believe reading books is wasted time, it helped me a lot with vocabularies and I think its better past time than watching TV.

Both are equally good. I find both equally inspiring (I like to read inspiring ones) to me. Don't get prejudices to any one. Don't care about others giving respect to novel writers. You make your mind and give equal respect to both. I have seen people reading a story (or novel) many times to get some inspiration out of it and finally saying nothing is received from book. My thinking is it depends on reader (not on book) extract out what he wants.

You are right to say that short story writers are usually less well known than novel writers. Of course some novelists also write short stories, but it is always the novels which sell well. There is a craft in writing a good short story and some say it is more difficult than novel writing. I think the real market for short stories is in magazines and other publications which feature stories, rather than in books. I hardly ever buy a book of short stories and I do buy a lot of fiction. I would not say either format was better than the other. Neither short stories nor novels are a waste of time.

I agree, I will prefer to read shorrt story compare to novels, most of the short stories will give us lesson from the real life, talk about novel, most people will like to read the love story novel. I think that is not healthy. I like the stories like the short stories from the Chinese phares. These short stories are meaningful.

I love reading it isn't a "Waste of time". I find I tend to read a lot of novels as I can get absorbed in them for longer and I dont feel like "aw thats it?" at the end. I enjoy short stories for quick read. My boyfriend prefers short stories over novels as you can read them then are done and you don't have to go back to the same book as much.

I like to read short stories. They are less time-consumed. Nowadays, time is very precious. So, unless the novel is very famous and worth reading, I won't use so much time to read a long novel.

Novels are always too long and it takes ages to read through, I never have the time. So I'm going to have to go for short stories.
