Toaster Oven Magic...

Just last week, I bought a toaster oven. I love kitchen gadgets almost as much as I love makeup. I was at Linens and Things, they are closing the one by my house and everything was really cheap. I picked up a super nice 6 slice Kitchenaid toaster oven for about 60 bucks normally they are a hundred. I couldn't pass up the deal on this cadillac of toaster ovens. The thing is, I have never owned one of these and was wondering what everyone uses their oven for other than toast and some chicken nuggets, pizza, or French fries. Oh yeah and thanks to one of my fabulous mylot friends (Coffee)a recipe for choclate chip cookies. I have to say they really are amazing and one of the best cookies I have had. I'm going to start doing all of my cookies in there. Love it! So to all of you mylot cooks- do you love or hate your toaster oven. What do you make in it? Have you broiled in it? I'm kind of leary about doing that but I think I'm going to try. So please share anything you cook in your toaster oven. I need ideas... Thanks for reading.

Kitchenaid is a great brand, I love their mixers. I have a toaster oven and I use it for multiple things I make even meatloaf, pizza, baked marinaded chicken on bambo sticks. I haven't made any cookies I haven't even thought to try that in it. But I have made cornbread and muffins and biscuits.

I loved baked chicken. I use my toaster oven alot in the summer so I won't have to use the big stove oven often, because it can get so hot in my trailer using it so I love my toaster oven in the summer. I also find that it helps in lowering the cost of electric also. So it has alot going for it.

The baked chicken sounds amazing. Even meatloaf that sounds good too. It looks like I won't be using my regular oven much this year. Thanks so much for the response.

I am very bad for kitchen gadgets as well. I got everything a person needs in there. I do however love my toaster oven and love making tons of things in them. I do chicken, fish, pork chops, french fries, cookies, smokies/weiners pretty much everything that you can think of I have put in there that is reasonable of course.

Cool! I'm going to try broiling. So far great luck with everything I have made...using the bake function and the toast. Broil is next.

I don't have a toaster oven but my grandma used to have one and she used it a lot. She made garlic bread in it a lot and she would make sandwiches in it - ham and cheese was great! She would also use it to heat up left overs some. I like kitchen gadgets too and I think my favorite is my crock pot. I use it a lot!!

Crock pot is a great one too. There are classics in the kitchen and that is one of them along with the hundred other I have. There is nothing better than having useful easy to work with gadgets in the kitchen especially when you are lazy and tired like me. :) Thanks for the response.

There are things that toaster ovens are need for that a microwave can not do and if you got it at a deal then that is good for you. I know for sure that you will put it too some use. The microwave is good but there are things that a microwave just can not do right. So have a nice one.

hey skinnychick - yes, a toaster oven is a girls best friend...okay man's too! Nothing you can't do with it! Well, maybe you wouldn't want to deep fry something, but boy are they a god-send! I have 2 little grand daughters nad I can make a healthy meal in the toaster oven almost faster than a frozen dinner can be nuked! I did the cookies again - 6 of them. A toaster oven....Just the best thing since sliced bread! Glad you are enjoying yours!

I love my toaster oven. I use it for many things I would use a regular oven for, since I am usually only cooking for me. Baked potatoes, reheating french fries, meatloaf (special size toaster oven loaf pan), etc. My grandmother's recipe for baked noodles (cooked noodles, canned tomatoes, cheese on top) works well in smaller quantities in the toaster oven. The only thing is that sometimes things may heat a little faster since it is smaller. Also, most frozen items that can go in the oven, specifically say not to put them in the toaster oven. Aside from that almost anything that can be baked can be put in the toaster oven, as long as it fits!

Just wanted to clarify, when I said most frozen items cannot go in the toaster oven, I was thinking of frozen meals or other such foods in plastic or cardboard trays. This is probably due to the proximity of the heating element.

My husband and I have a toaster oven that we received as a gift from his brother, but we don't use it very much yet. We actually haven't had it for very long, so we haven't had much of a chance to try out very many different things in it. We've just tried toast and garlic bread and little things like that. I am looking forward to trying out some other things in it though. I would love to try making chocolate chip cookies in it sometime! I will have to find a recipe like that sometime. yummy!

Here is the link to my friend Coffeebreak's thread and where I got the idea. These cookies really are amazing. They come out perfect and I mean perfect. You can use any old cookie recipe I think even the break and bake ones. They are so yummy and addicting without heating your kitchen up. Thanks for the response. http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1549627.aspx

I do not own a toaster oven. My sister has one that she uses on a daily basis because her oven is on its way out the door. It does not heat properly anymore. She has been looking for a new toaster oven because the one she has is not big enough for some of the things she wants to use it for.

The one I got is pretty big so they are around but smaller is cheaper as far as money goes. I hope she finds one soon. I love mine so far. Thanks for the response.

I make all of the above in my toaster oven. I've also made garlic bread and toasted cheese sanwhiches. I've made biscuits also, but you have to watch that the bottoms of them dont get burned. I really like my toaster oven also. I'm the only one who is here most of the time so it comes in really handy.

That's what I like about it as well. If my kids are away at their dad's, it's only me and sometimes my SO so it's nice that I will be able to cook small amounts in a relatively fast time. Thanks for the response.

i just baked a whole chicken in mine(kind of a tight squeeze) i live in Las Vegas, and it's starting to heat up...so if i can fit it in the toaster oven, and don't have to use the regular oven which heats up my whole apartment, i cook everything and anything with the toaster oven, the microwave, and my trusty Fry Daddy.
