When it comes to your job, do you want a job to impress others that will give you braggin' rights or do you perfer a job that makes you happy? The other day a church member came into the restaurant my 16 year old works at and my daughter noticed the husband had on a Roto Rooter uniform. Her dad use to work for Roto Rooter for a time so she recognized the uniform straight away. When she commented that her dad use to work for that company too the wife seemed somewhat embarassed. Some in our church promote the idea that members should study to become professionals like doctors, lawyers, and engineers and the like. It is encouraged to become an officer if you join the military.
What is more important to you, status or happiness when it comes to your job? I choose happiness, I believe you live long enough to spend and enjoy what little money you earn when you are happy at what you do.

I would much rather choose a job that I really love. It can be nice to feel very accomplished in what you do and it certainly would feel good, but I think that being happy in my job would be a lot more important to me than having something fancy that I could brag about. If I had a really fancy job that sounded really good, but I couldn't stand it and was totally miserable, then I just don't think it would be worth it. I would much rather find something that I really enjoy and makes me happy, because I think that is a greater success than just having a big title. I really believe that every job is important in it's own way, and I think that just making an honest living doing something that makes you happy is the most important thing.

You are right, every job is important, and it is even more important that one be happy at what he does in order to make a living. If work is not enjoyed, it becomes an extra heavy burden that eats away at the soul. There is nothing quite like enjoying one's work, that is true fulfillment.

I thought status would make me happy and worked my way up to a management position which I enjoyed at first but additional responsibilities were added again and again until I found the job to be more stress and less happiness. So, I left that job, moved 1,000 miles away to the south and now have a job with less responsibility, little status and I like it a lot more. Stess can kill and my life is too important to be stressd out over a job.
