MyLot Friends - Do you turn the notify on or off?

Since I've been here I've been growing my friends list. Currently I'm at 332 friends, some are active at posting discussions and some are not. I've tried to come up with a system to rotate them all in so that I can respond to their discussions when they are posted. I use it like the alphabet, A-E, F-J, K-O, P-T, U-Z, I go by screen names to make sure everyone gets equal exposure. I rotate each alpha group every two weeks. I want to make sure I keep myself involved with their ideas but if I turned everyone's notification on, I wouldn't be able to empty my inbox. Do you have a system that you use?

No, I do not have a system, but I need to. I am absolutely flooded with emails and reality is that I am never going to be able to catch up with them all. Or get around to answering them all. It is really hard to come up with anything that works on here, I think that I would have to be really organised and clever to be able to keep up and do everything on here. I am not sure how many friends I actually have, it is a few and now a good percentage of them are active so it is really hard!

Mylot does require a committment that I don't have with other such sites.

It certainly does! It could be worse than having a full time job!

that sounds like a good idea, i dont have as many freinds as you do lol, how ever i think i have the notify button on for all of my friends, ive been busy the last couple of weeks so at times i forget to get on mylot, and when one of my friends starts a discussion it helps me to keep writting lol it sounds lame i know, but its true...

No that doesn't sound lame, I get tons of ideas from my friends discussions and that helps me write too.

I have never used the notification feature. See, I use an email that I don't normally check (to avoid spam in my main email box) So if I turned notify on, my inbox would be full every day. I just log on and go to discussions my friends started, go through the first 3 pages and respond when I am interested.

Wow, that's a very scientific method! You'll have to let me know when you get to G so that I can post all my discussions LoL I have lots of friends, but only a portion of them are turned to ON. They tend to be the ones with the discussions which I find more interesting, though that's not always the case of course. I just haven't got enough hours in the day to deal with all of them. I ought to go through and cull my friends list actually as I think that there's a fair few that are no longer active.

I got 400+ friends and I am notified every time each one of them will start a discussion.I am more comfortable this way and I am trying very hard to clear off my mailbox each day, anyway, I am jobless this time so I have more time online. If you are working, I will understand that and that style is great since you will be able to be active to all of them.

My notify is on for each friend. No wonder I get over 100 mails every morning and evening. Yup, I admit it is difficult to empty the inbox, but impossible to keep track of friends' discussions otherwise. Cheers and happy mylotting!

I keep notify off. At first I put it on and the no of emails I used to get were simply I could not handle. So I turned it off and for responding friends discussions I keep an eye on tab 'Discussions your friend started' and if I catch a good discussion from any of my friend, I definately reply, if I am free at that time other wise I skip and wait for next good one to come.

I have no special system and have many friends too. I have all their notifications switched to on and I will answer any that I can, some discussions I don't feel I can participate in so delete and move on but I manage to get through the majority even if it means I am a couple of days behind in answering. I have some though that I always answer to who never answer to mine at all but this doesn't bother me too much as I enjoy the participation. My inbox does sometimes get a bit crazy and I will have to go through and answer through the friends discussion section instead and I may miss a few here and there but in general manage it pretty well. Like you say not all are active, some will only respond and very rarely post a discussion themselves so I don't find it too bad having all on really. If I know I am going to be away for a few days though I will switch busy posters off as inbox only holds 1000 and that has been filled before now LOL not just with myLot though other emails too. Ellie :D

Yes I did turned on the notification notice. My friend's list is growing so fast that I can't be able to visit most of them . That's one reason why I turn it on because when the time they create a new discussion I can be able to participate . In that way, they will know that I still exist...lol.

Since I'm relatively new here and don't have that many friends as you do, I have my notify on. If I reach that many friends, I think I will also look for ways on how to divide my time in such a way that I will be able to join my friends' discussions. I may have to keep your system in mind, just in case I need it someday. Good luck and thanks for the add, btw!

hi gfp. yes, i turn the notify on for my friends so i know if they started a discussion. also, i get a chnce to see what topics have they recently posted in. this is good especially if you share the same interest with your frineds. posting is made easier because you don't have to look through the site looking for discussions where you can post.

I only got 10 friends or so, deleted 2/3 of them. So I can handle the posts easily. From the 10 friends, only 3 are active, and 1 of them post twice a week.

I keep mine on so that when i get a friend request or someone responds to a comment i have left i know about it and i can easily find the discussion and respond to the comment.
