I know you are thinking that this is the wrong time of year for this post, but really it isn't. Several of my crafty friends and I have learned that if we want to get done in time we needed to get started now. I do a lot od polymer clay ornaments, and I make snow globes out of gum ball machine balls. That and I love my tube sock snowmen. Do you have a favorite Christmas craft?

Hi! This time of year is actually the perfect time to begin thinking on and beginning to work on Christmas crafts. My girls and I enjoy stamping cards to send to family and friends. We are also going to try our hand at decorating glass ornaments this year. I've been looking for just the right pattern to sew a table runner and maybe a wall hanging for this Christmas as well. Wonderful post! Thank you for sharing with us!

This really is the best time to start thinking about Christmas if you like to make your gifts. One year I knitted everyone a sweater! I am just getting into bas relief with clay. I have started making bas relief "pictures" with hand-made frames of my friends and family that way to give to them as Christmas gifts. I'm also doing bas relief of animals, pets, etc. It's so much fun and not as hard as it seems.

Well, both, kinda. I majored in art in high school and college. But that was a looooooong time ago! I took scupture, but not bas relief. I've taught myself bas relief. I've always liked working in clay and have made a lot of jewelry from it. I have a picture of a unicorn here in my office that I absolutely adore and, one day, I started to think that it would look really great in bas relief. That's what got me started. Kinda self-taught, but with a pretty extensive background in art.

That is so awesome. I've got a lot of "formal" training as well both in fine art (high school) and commercial and graphic art (college). I have found though that I end up teaching myself a lot of things. Here lately I've been making a lot of stuff with polymer clay. Mostly beads and Christmas ornaments.

Wow that sounds like it would make a really cool gift. Did you teach yourself or take a class?

I usually knit a few things, and need to get started on Christmas gifts. However, I have a few other projects to finish first. You're right, though; it's time to get started on Christmas!

My mother in law showed my a few basic things and the rest I just started making it up as I go along. I'm making glow in the dark hacky sacks for all of the kids in our family. They only take about 30 minutes to make and everyone seams to think they are cool.

I want to learn how to knit so bad. I crochet but have found that there are a lot of things that I either can not make or would come out better if I knitted.

I don't have a favorite but stamp and do other projects. This year however I am making wreaths out of Christmas ornaments. My sister had rented her house to so people that left in a hurry after a court order and they left two garbage bags of beautiful ornaments that I claimed. So that is what I'll do this year. I am for sure making one for my sister.

I am not sure yet.....probably a foam one. I looked for a pattern on the internet and ran off a few....so I'll see what works best when I get to making them.

Great idea! I've seen those wreaths but have never made one. What are you going to use as a form to stick the ornaments on?

Please, let me know what you figure out.I would love to try my hand at that. There are always people on criagslist giving away ornaments. It could turn out to be a great project for the kids this year.

I also enjoy making poly clay ornaments. I don't really get to do much at-home crafting with my sons, as this is a very busy time of the year for my full-time job and my crafting business. Keeping my online shop inventory up, filling custom orders and doing a craft fair almost every other week from November to mid-December keeps me quite busy. The boys do get to help me with some of the polymer clay ornaments and they often make something for their teachers. Last year my youngest, who was 4 at the time made a bunch of little bracelets for his classmates using simple large brown and orange beads with a covered memory wire. The kids wore them until after Christmas...it was so cute!

I think that's my favorite part of crafting, getting the kids involved. My older two are too old and too cool to be crafting with mom now but the little two love it. You mentioned an online store ...are you with Etsy. If so send me a link. I love to check out others peoples work.

yah,i seen a nativity scene painted on it,first they put a hole at both ends(using pin),they use a small pump(use by some laboratories)at the top to remove the egg white and yoke, then they clean it by cotton with ample amt. of water, the painting process are done, lastly they apply gloss use in nail polish, thats it,other variation to these are putting some glitters or other decorative materials to it,like what is done in making a paper lantern. you should try it.

If I haven't started my Christmas projects by July, I don't get them all done, so this is a perfect time to bring this up. I make beaded Christmas ornaments for all my grand children and great grand children. When I first started I made them from kits containing plastic beads and chenille wire. I've learned a lot about beadweaving in recent years and usually not only bead the ornaments with thread, but usually make the patterns also. So I'd better get busy and finish up that pattern I started just after last Christmas while I was still in the Christmas mood. ;)

Christmas always helps me put my worries aside for a little while. There's just something about the whole feel of the holiday that puts me at ease.
