when is telling a lie ok?

oh you never lie,you lying,you thinking about a lie right now to get out this weekend,no i'm just playing ,but serious now,when a woman ask does this dress make my butt look big,or do i look fat,what should be the right answer,the truth that is going to hurt her feelings or a lie?

if someone has said bad things about your friend, and your friends asks if they did, I think it best if you lied and said no

I think telling a lie is ok when it helps someone, wether its to save him/her from embarrasment etc...but of course we should not lie to cover up for a persons misdeeds, we are not protecting him from punishment we are actually harming him when he does not get punished and does not realise that his actions has consequences
