What's the quickest way to ruin a cell phone?

So, have you ever ruined a cell phone by dropping it into your drink? Left it on your car dashboard and had it melted by the sun? Loaned your phone to a friend and never saw it again? Please share your cell phone mishaps. Here's mine. This past week I found out the answer to this question, when I was talking on the cell phone with my spouse. He was grocery shopping at the same time and I wanted to make sure he didn't forget anything. Incidentally, I got a craving for chocolate and decided to make cocoa. It smelled like the perfect cup of cocoa, by the way. But, of course, I never got to try it out. You know what happened next. While trying to juggle the cell phone propped on my shoulder against one ear and a cup of steaming hot chocolate, I lost my balance. And, my cell phone fell into my cocoa. I watched as the poor phone sputtered and fizzled, gasping for life. Then of course, it died. Now, I have to buy another cell phone. Lucky for me, I'm on the prepaid plan, so I think I can just get a ten dollar replacement from AT&T (Cingular). Or, just buy a new camera phone for $20. So, I'm lucky that I'm not out that much money. My first cell phone cost $100. That would be kind of expensive to replace now. What's been your biggest cell phone mishap?

Hi BeatyQueen, My biggest mishap happened when I left my phone in my skirt pocket. I did laundry the next morning and I forgot to check the pockets and you can guess what happened. The funniest part of the story happened when I called Verizon to explain what happened, the girl on the other end told me to try running it through the drier. lol. After about 5 calls to customer support they sent me a free replacment phone. Tianna

Hi Tianna! I had not thought to call the company. Maybe they can tell me whether or not a replacement, paid or free is possible. I would love to keep this phone, cause it has money in it. It's prepaid. So, I have like $40 in minutes on it and I'm not looking forward to losing those. But, I have two months before they expire. Thanks for the tip.

Hello! Actually, when I accidentally dropped my phone in a pail of water, I fished it out immediately of course, I called my friend who's in the cellphone repair business, she told me to take off the casing, remove the battery and if I have a hair dryer, use it to dry the phone. Then don't switch on the phone for at least 24 hrs. I did what she told me, and the phone was ok. I was able to use it for about 2 more years before switching to a newer model. So maybe the girl's idea of running it through the drier wasn't that far off. LOL

My granddaughter was great at doing in sell phones. She is on a plan with her boyfriend. she was great at just throwing it when she got mad. She finely decided it was time to put some insurance on and learned to control her temper. So now she doesn't throw them any more. Her boyfriend just dropped hers in the river while river rafting. It does work but you can't see the screen.

I went to a clients house one time, and I either left it in the car or it fell out of the car when i was going into their house. When I came back I could not find the phone anywhere. I don't know if I dropped in the parkinglot and somebody took it or if I forgot to lock my car and someone took it, or if i left it at their house. They denied it and I believed them. Anyway it was a mysterious disapperence and I never got the phone back.

Hubbs dropped his in the toilet and peed on it by mistake. Never worked right after that. He was at work and was using the bathroom with the cell phone in his pocket and it fell out of his pocket into the toilet while he was taking a wizz. Ended up peeing on his work phone. Parts of the phone worked but the mike system didn't work right and the ear piece never worked the same after he tinkled on it. *lol*

My younger sister got hold of my phone, ran in to the garden and dropped it into the pond and then laughed.

And it wasn't the first time something happen to my cellphone. Once my cellphone fell on the street and I stepped on it.

I have ruined a cell phone by dropping it into a pool, it happened because I put my cell phone on the back pocket in my jean and when I blended over because I dropped something it fell into the pool, I was able to get out the water the phone really fast because I kid that was swimming picked up it but anyway it was totally ruined, I try drying it and following some tips that I found online but I was not able to get it working again, something similar happened to a cousin, she leave her cell phone in a table outside of the house and it was a little rainy so it got all wet, she doesn't have money to get a new one so I try to fix it and I was able, I opened and dried it so much as I was able and then I leave it for one night waiting that the water evaporate totally, and next day I ensemble it again and she was so lucky that it run again and without problem, even it was working better because it was getting good signal but since I took off all the powder that it had inside it worked really good, I have a friend that work selling cell phones and he sometimes has to fix cell phones that have been drop inside a toilet, he has a gloves to do that because he say that the people don't even wash it, of course they are afraid to ruin it even more, but of course he do to wash it before to start to try fixing it.

the quickest way to destroy a perfectly good phone is to drop it in a bucket of water. I can tell you that from experience. Had to get mine replaced after my boss at a restaurant I was working at did that to my phone. He paid the deductible for me to claim it on the replacement insurance I had on it, so it didn't cost me anything, but it was a bit inconvenient to go and have it replaced, which only I could do.

About ten years ago I had a really "handy" bag that I used for going to work. Now mind you I was using public transport and that meant getting in and out of three busses and a train on each journey. So having a bag that would make life easier was really a must. It was designed to be slung across your body and had two pockets on the the front. Well that's a great place to put your phone of course. That way you don't have to fish it out from under all your other stuff. And the other one was good to keep my travel tickets so I wouldn't have to open up my wallet in public. Well it was one of those wet summers that we occassionaly get here. Temps are fine but some days it just pours and pours water for hours on end, like there is no tomorrow. Well I got caught in one of those rain showers. Now my bag was made of canvas and coated with something or other but not really water resistant, as it turned out. You see I hadn't even thought about it till I needed to use my cell phone a couple of days later and the display was going all gaga on it. It was at that moment that I realised that it had gone amok because of the rain. My train tickets were kept in a plastic holder otherwise that would have tipped me off sooner.
