Fundraiser for Flood Victims

United States

Last Friday night, June 6, 2008, the area that I live in got up to over 10 inches of rain. This was a widespread area that the rain covered. As a result, there has be flooding all over the place. Roads have been washed out and bridges have collapsed. There have been evacuations in several towns and levees have been breaking in many places. Today (Tues. June 10), in Terre Haute, Indiana, there is a Colts Fan Fest going on. The floods have not stopped this activity from happening. The members of the Colts team decided that this Fan Fest would be a great opportunity to turn it into a fundraiser for the flood victims there. The local Red Cross organization has also teamed up with the Indianapolis Colts and the United Way to take donations of money and clothing for people who have been affected by the floods. The Terre Haute, Indiana community has really pulled together to help with evacuations and cleaning of flood victims' homes. This has been a time of weather-related devastation of such great proportions that I have never seen in all my 54 years of living.
