What makes topic REALLY popular?

Whenever I'm making a topic it's usually have 2 or 3 responses. If I'm lucky I will get even 10 or 15. My question is: How is it possible to make a topic with 100+ answers? I don't really get it how people are doing it and I am curious about it. It's my little dream here to make a topic with 50+ responses, couse I'm simply jealous of those high numbers :).
What do you do to make topic really interesting and do you use any tricks to get more responses? Which topics do you think are most popular?

I am new here so I can't really say for sure. One reason I suppose is that a person has a lot of friends and they answer each others discussions.

Yeah, I have a lot of friends here at mylot.com but only small part of them are interested in my topics.

Maybe tagging your discussions ... do you tag everything that you do with all relevant tags?

having a lot of friends is one thing but you must focus more on creating an exciting discussion. just like some of the responses above, mylot is a global community with lots of nationalities. make sure that your topics are interesting to all. responses should not be limited to gender, natonality, or beliefs. be as descriptive as possible so all mylotters can understand what you're trying to bring up.

Anyway, I try not to think too much about what kind of topic will attract the most responses. Different people have different interests. Whatever interests you may not interests others.
I think the most important thing it to be true to yourself. Also, make friends here and respond to their discussions.
I always see the same friends responding to my discussions. I feel very happy. I know that sometimes they are responding not because of the topic but because it's me who start the topic.
I always try to respond to their discussions too.
