How do you get more responses at your discussions?

When you're trying to get more responses on Mylot, do you ask for opinions? Do you think it's easier to get responses if you give responses at other people's discussions?
Sometimes I like to post helpful tips and hints. I find that others love finding out new things. I sure do! Posting useful tips on the MyLot experience, home-making, cooking, childcare etc. also shows community spirit. I like to help others whenever I can. And, I get some very positive responses from others for doing so.
Other times, I like to post on my friends discussions. And, in turn they do the same for me. Everyone wins with this method. Also, be nice! And, post some good general topics that everyone can relate to. One of my most popular topics is shoes and toothbrushes. I like talking about those two things and they seem to draw a crowd. We have fun chatting.
That's my other tip. Update your discussions a couple times a day. And, try to award best response on the day you post a discussion. That way you'll encourage more people to respond. Everytime you update a discussion, it pops back to the top of your discussions box on your profile page where others can find it.
Those are my best tips for getting more responses on MyLot. They're not tricks. Just common sense. Hope these ideas help you out! Please post a tip of your own. Thanks!

These are all really good tips. I sometimes wait for a best response though myself. Then there are times when I hav found the right response that suits me and I give it. I do more replies to discussions then I do starting them myself.

I try to wait, when I can. I have found that I love all the responses and sometimes wish that there was a way to give more than one best response. I have a tough time choosing. Often times, there are fifty or more responses for me within the first day. So, there are plenty of good answers to choose from.
However, if there are only one or two by the end of the first day, I know from experience that the discussion will not pick up many more responses. Sometimes the discussion does pick up many, many more! As in my discussion on shoes. And, that is a wonderful and happy surprise. I love when that happens. But, most times, the first day is that last day for my discussions. After that they slip into oblivion! LOL!

I don't know that there are any tricks or ways to get more responses to your discussions other than to make it interesting and general enough that everyone can respond to it. I agree with you about updating your discussions by doing a comment on an older response to put it back to the top of the list so it gets more exposure but taht doesn't always help either. I know I don't get a lot of responses to my discussions, maybe they are too boring to some people. I don't start a lot of discussions and mostly stick to responding since I don't know what to start a discussion about anymore. I notice that some people are always starting discussions and rarely just respond to other discussions. For example, my gooogel email address bunches my discussions together from the day they are posted, and some of the emails I get have 40 or 50 discussions to one email. Most of them I can't respond to because I have nothing more to add to them, but a lot of them I can respond to. This email notification of your discussions, has 23 discussions but I am having a hard time finding some that I can respond to because they are mostly not of interest to me, but I do read them all to find the ones I can respond to.

Yes, updating one's discussions could help to freshen up and coul attract our discussions and if its really attrative a lot of mylotters will be able to participate, and many will respond to it.

Thanks for the tips-I'm not on here much-and I never start discussions. Lately I have decided to give it a bigger try. I'm going to utilize your tips.

I believe i post interesting topics either on specific subjects either for cultural exchange so people learn more about things they don't know about, or just for asking questions, anyway not all my friends respond to my topics even if i respond to theirs so i don't know how to get more responses - i guess i should follow up on the U.S.A day time so that more members be online.
