Do we truly appreciate the good things we have?

It was Joni Mitchell who sang that line in "Big Yellow Taxi"..."Don't it always seem to go, you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone..." Was she right? And if so, why? Why do we not appreciate what we've got when they're here, and yet miss them so much when they've gone, or are in danger of going? Or is this false and we do appreciate the good things in life? What is the truth behind this mystery?

I think sometimes it just takes losing a few people in out lives to make us realize we must start appreciating what and who we have because when we lose people or things it really is too late and life is so short .

I think we all need to be reminded to think more about the good things we have. If we could think of just one of two things every day that we are thankful for, it would change our mood and attitude.
And as many of us tend to see the bad sides in other people, we could train with one person a day, looking for some good sides in that person. It would also be even better to tell him/her what sides we appreciate in them.
These methods are really powerful, and after some time it can change our relationship to others for the better.

I agree. As long as there is life, there's hope. Every day is precious, every morning a blessing.
