Blowing out the candles on your birthday cake has been a family tradition for as long as I've been alive and, at 52, I'm not too old to enjoy it. I don't think you're ever too old to blow out candles and make that wish.

There is nothing wrong with candles on your birthday cake. It's your birthday! They already tried to take the cake from us with the "You can't have your cacke and eat it too". How dare they say you can't have candles. You should have your cake any way you want it. In any flavor you want. There was a woman on television who was celebrating her 105th birthday and guess what she had on her cake?
