Did Santana invent Latin Rock?

Before Santana burst into the scene, there were no major Latin Rock musicians. He seems to have made the big splash and brought the Latin beat into the mainstream of Rock. Is Santana a kind of trailblazer of the Latin Rock sound?

I think there were others prior to him, but for me Carlos is so smooth. He rocks!

There are some talents that just can't be ignored. Their excellence really shines through and Carlos Santana is one of them, imho.

There were probably others around before Carlos Santana. Charo springs to mind as she did a few rock numbers on flamenco guitar. He probably was the one who popularised it though.

Charo and Trini Lopez might be some examples but they never made the splash and it was Carlos Santana who broke out in a big way.
