Do your kids take over your television?

Between my 2 kids i never get to watch tv unless its in the evening or when they are napping. They have tv's in there own room but they some how manage to bring toys out in the living room get therselves all comfortable either on the couch or onthe floor and get cartoons on my tv and the funny thing is ill sit there and watch it with them and not think "hey they turned my show off" because sometimes im not really into it. I could be watching something and all the sudden it switches to nick jr or sprout and im watching what they are watching. Does this happen to anyone else? Do your kids take over your television? Arent kids wonderful! I love mine!

My kids don't do this But my husband does. Right in the middle of a great program that I'm watching even tho I'm still surfing the net. He flips it. My girls like watching what I watch or there always outside.

How old are they? Mine are 8 & 9 and after a while I got tired of the television being taken over. So now they play with thier toys for the most part in thier room and clean up anything they bring out at bedtime. We have a new flatscreen that they aren't allowed to touch unless it's the weekend and only until someone asks "Where's the remote"? lol Does that sound mean ? I hope not we love our kids, just can't let them take over.

:) I don't have kids yet and I am not even married but I just remember the days I was a kid. I and my brother used to take over the television everytime! Whenever we were awake, the television was ours! We were watching whatever we want, cartoons in day times, comedy or super-hero movies at nights and some silly competitiions. You know, they are so funny for children :) I am just very thankful to my parents who did never made us feel that way. They never let us feel we are taking their television. They just made it like we wanted and this is a really great thing. It is impossible to pay back to your parents and hopefully, they don't expect that. One day, when I have kids, I will certainly do the same for them... With peace and happiness :)

I really don't mind watching my son's cartoons or shows, but that's only when there's nothing on or like you said when my shows are not all that interesting. I'm not sure if they have a plan going on in their little heads of how they take over our TV sets. It just happens lol... We have the Nintendo Wii in the living room and my son loves it so he plays it out here all the time in the living room. He has a PS2 in his own room but doesn't seem that interested in it anymore since we bought the Wii. Have a good day

We don't watch much television but if I want to watch something the boys can watch it with me (I don't watch anything that is not appropriate for the family), if they are watching something and I know something is coming on, I let them know that the channel is being changed in half an hour or whatever. Its usually not an issue though, because if it (tv) is on, its a mindless cartoon (because it won't stop raining...ever) or, if its a nice day out, we might have the tv on for school work (documentary), but we generally don't have it on and I'm the grown up... so that's the way it goes...that said...I rarely watch anything either, most stuff is just icky anyhow... I do wish there was more quality programming on, though, because I would love to sit back and watch something sometimes...we watch the military channel a lot (my boys love history) and the discovery channel...I like food network, discovery health... but that's usually all that is on anyhow. We're boring. LOL

Just chiming in.... We all have tv's in our rooms, they just like the huge flat screen in the living room. I turn it to discovery HD or something educational, they all enjoy it.

my daughter always takes over the tv. Thats why I am thankful for DVR. I record and watch while the kids are asleep b/c they are so loud and I can't hear whats going on during my show. The good thing with DVR also is you can rewind tv. Got to have it.

Well we have a television in every room but some how my kids still do end up taking over the t.v. between everyone wanting to watch the sprout channel and cartoon network but you know I let I dont mind because I believe that sprout channel is one of the best programs on t.v. right now it keeps my kids calm and out my hair.

Your children are taking over your TV because you are letting them. It is not by some strange quirk, YOU let them even though they have TV's in their room, that they can watch or share with each other you let them take over you TV. You say you love them and I believe this, but you need to think about your self as well because if you keep allowing them to do what they want, they will very soon rule the house and if your read a lot of posts from parents in mylot wondering why their kids are out of control. well it was because they allowed it to happen, that is why YOU are the mom (adult) and they are children, and should be taught to LISTEN to mom. It may seem cute to you and aww, but you are putting your self in a place that will attract nothing but problems. Love your Children and raise them to be adults not kids it doesn't work for them when they hit 30 and they are still a kid. This is only my opinion and you are free to disregard

Mine used to. Shes 4 and always wants to watch it out there cause the tv is bigger. So we bought her her own. She still tries sometimes but I tell her if she wants to watch tv she has to watch it on her own tv or shes not going to watch it at all.

My Grandkids lived with us for 8 months..one day I realized..IT IS MY TV..and they watch too much anyway. So then we either turned it off to play a game or color, or if a fav show of mine was on, I would just tell them it is Grandma's turn. They just recently moved out and I now have a "Sponge Bob Ban" in place. LOL I just realized the other day, that without them here, some days they tv does not even get turned on til evening.

My son is a year old and he does this all the time. Right when im watching my favorite show, he would switch the channel or turn it off. He would yell, BAaa! (Barney) I (CSI) Vroom Vroom (Cars). His favorite shows. Or when im watching dvd he would turn if off or pause it. I didnt know babies can do that. He started doing that before he turned a year old. He even knows how to turn off a computer right when im just doing something important LOL!

My son took over the televison. Sometimes he does not allow me to watch the programmes.that I like. I have to remind him not to be selfish and I also remind him I purchased the TV and not him. Most of the time he watches TV as I do not have much time for watching TV. He is the only child and the TV is like another family member to him.
