What's the worst job you ever had?

I think the worst job I had was a telephone survey rep. Automatic dialer for most of the projects, but redundant, mind-numbingly boring, and people are relly mean to you cuz they think you're selling something, so instead of saying no thanks 2 times and then hanging up, they'd rather yell & curse at you.

Working at McDonald's. It was horrible! I smelled like beef all the time, I had burn marks all over my arms and hands since I worked the grill team.

The worst job I ever had was my last job. (Not my last ever, but the last one I quit.) I swear to God, I was the only one there who knew how to use Word. I was the receptionist there (the head office of a retail chain) and it started off with regular receptionist duties. Then it slowly morphed into something completely different, with me creating and making all the signage for the stores, creating all of the forms/hiring packages, etc., placing orders for product, handling the calls to our french-speaking distributors and practically being the personal assistants to the two owners. Might I add that no pay raise was ever even mentioned? I did learn one valuable lesson though-if you agree to do a new job/task even once to help out, it becomes yours forever.

My worst job was weighing 1oz earth samples for a mining laboratory, over and over and over again, ...take a scoop, put it on the scale, take a pinch off, maybe another, now add half a pinch, put it in a test tube. I can't believe I didn't need to check into a psychiatric hospital after two months of that. It was my first summer job when I was in high-school.

No, honey, I used to call random people at their homes to ask if they would participate in a public research survey. 95% of the time there was no pay involved for them. Surveys would last approximately 15 minutes and the questions were very redundant. They always thought I was trying to sell them something and would get mad and yell at me or hang up. Regarding online research and focus groups, I got bored doing most of the online surveys, but I do focus groups pretty regularly. Those are really good pay. The highest I've received so far is $125 for 2 hours. Thanks for your reply! Aloha!

Mine would have to be Telesales. I used to sit there daily with a headset whilst the auto-dialer called existing customers of SKY Television. I was merely inquiring whether they wished to renew a warranty they'd previously purchased, but the majority were morons and didn't even realise they'd taken out a warranty in the first place. That job has got to be the most boring, stressful and depressing one I've had. Taking abuse from total strangers day in, day out, plus the added pressure of meeting targets daily, when you're only trying to help them, is just not worth it. I had a few laughs though, it's amazing how long you can keep someone on the phone just by asking them the same question they asked you, only rewording it haha. I ended up going to the pub one lunchtime and never returning. One of the best decisions I've made regarding my career.

I worked a summer job making funnel cakes for a concession stand. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE to eat funnel cakes, but standing in front of a 300 degree vat of oil flipping funnel cake after funnel cake while some tone deaf person stands on a stage two feet away belting out unchained melody was far from glamorous. Oh, and to top that off, my boss was a major a-hole who gave all the women workers a hard time while he sat in a corner shooting the breeze with the men. Ugh!

My worst job was working at a movie theater. They treat you like crap because you're expendable; if you quit, there are only 1000 other kids looking for a job. So it sucked, but I needed money and it was pretty much the only job that let me play with my schedule. Customers also treated me like crap, not like a human being. The whole "behind the counter" thing I guess makes it seem like they are superior and we, the employees, are inferior. They would yell when it wasn't fast enough service, or they would come up and order 10 things, then at the end change it all and get mad. Insane. Never, never, never stay in food service or entertainment (movie theaters) too long. It's just a bad idea and makes you sour.

Oh how sad! I always try to be nice and patient at food counters & busy places. But yeah, I've been behind those crummy customers that change their order & get mad at the poor kid at the register. And the .."oh, and I need this. Oh, and add one of those. Oh, and..." Just shut up and get out of the way!!! HeeHee! Thanks for replying...I feel for you! Aloha!

working as a technical support. I always asked myself why I got accepted when I didn't know anything about computers. The company didn't provide any training so I had difficulty assisting the customers. How can I assist them with troubleshooting when I don't even know what I'm doing. Funny though, I lasted for 3 months.

I've worked at amusement parks, but I didn't think it was all that bad. Was my 1st 2 jobs from when I was 16. For being 16 and no skills, you have to expect minimum wage at most places. But yes, you really do have to be a big people person to deal with the constant crowds, so it's definitely not a job for anyone. Thanks for responding!! Aloha!
