I'm an Alliance player and before the changes in AV the Horde used to turtle a lot. Is it, or was it ever, an effective way to win an AV game?

Turtinling before the changes used to be so annoying es[ecially because the alliance used to tkae it whenever the horde didnt do it. Now a days tutling is effective but it makes for such a long game.

Yeah, but how satisfying is it to end a BG with 168 HK's and 460 bonus honor! I LOVE long AV's (if we're winning)...nice horde killing opportunity!

Turtling can be effective, if done right. For a turtle to work, your side has to be ahead on points ... usually due to having taken one or more towers out, more then the other side. Then setting up your turtle at that point. In example ... the horde have a tendancy on our server to set up their turtle right at IBGY. The chokepoint there makes it very easy to set up D. The send a large team out to that point to disrupt the taking of IBtower and gy, along with TP. And this continues to stymy the alliance advancing. The remainder of their team, will continue down and take tower by tower. This ends up in a long drawn out affair but they usually win this way. As far as turtling goes, the board favors Horde. With the changes in AV, the game has basically turned into a race. I like the changes, they have evened things up a bit for the horde. However, I don't like the fact that the game has turned into a race. No time now for doing side quests, etc. And this ties in with the turtle question. The kids playing today only seem to grasp one concept ... head for the final gy and take it. They think it's a magic bullet to win the game. But if the opposing team puts up Defense in there somewhere, it busts the whole thing apart into a turtle. Also remember the mines come in handy in the case of a turtle. /cheers ~r~

Yeah, IBGY is a popular turtle spot for my server too. It's very affective when the horde plant several shammies and warlocks there with their totems and detect invisible abilities. I'd rather AV be more strategic than a race.

It is an effective way to win with the changes they have made to AV. If the entire team is on Defense, there is no way the other team is getting your general away from you before they run out of resources. Add in a resourceful rogue or two to stealth and flip flags, and now you are taking people away from their offense to go back and reflip those flags. However, it takes no skill, is boring and removes the actual purpose from the fantasy game of war that we play. I'd much prefer to die fighting forward than to sit with 39 others on Defense. This is not to say that D doesn't have its own benefits, it is just more effective to have 10 on D and the rest on O causing trouble for the other side!

Turtling in AV is no longer effective. People will argue that you get all that extra honor from all the Honorable Kills you get while turtling but in the end it's less honor. Would you rather have a 1 hour turtle for ~500 honor or 4 15 min games at ~300 each? I for one would much rather have the ~1200 from the 15 min games.
