Do you have a locking gas cap on your car? I went and bought one yesterday. They say that people are buying them so fast it is hard for them to keep them in stock. With gas prices riseing so fast, people are starting to steal gas. Although you have to open my gas flap on my car from inside the car, they say that people just pry this door open with a screw driver.

It is actually on my list of things to get. Ever since the price of gas started skyrocketing I have been concerned with the possibility that someone could syphon gas from my car. The weird thing is my current gas cap is not a locking one but someone stole it while I was getting my hair cut. Go figure! I can see gas stealing as a real problem in the immediate future.

Glad you are getting one too. Why would they steal your gas cap, were they planning on siphening your gas too? Now you really do need a gas cap, may as well get the locking one.I too can see a lot of people stealing gas in the future. so sad!

Yes ours is a locking gas cap. It is not surprising that this is happening with the way things are at the moment. I remember petrol syphoning used to be a big thing when I was 16 and it was how the kids that stole cars filled up. They would go around in the middle of the night breaking into cars and syphoning the petrol out of them. It is mad that it is coming to this really.

Yes, it is a pretty smart idea to have one these days, though no I do not. I bought one for one of my cars once because someone kept putting sugar in the gas tank..heh.

No don't have a lock on the gas tank but with the way that things are going with the high gas prices. There will be a need to have one to keep people from stealing your gas out of your car. That will be the next big thing on the news.

Yes people are already stealing gas from peoples tanks here where I live, so that is why I did buy the locking gas cap.

If you have to lock it up, do that. At least you will know that you have gas in your car and it has not been stolen. Have a good one.

I don't have one yet, but as a matter of fact I was thinking about getting one this weekend. It's beginning to become a pretty routine thing to steal gas and as prices rise, I suppose it will become rampant all over. Are they easy to install? Who would have thought that gas could become more precious than jewelry? It's come to that.

I have actually looked into getting one. Every time I'm at a store that sells them, though, I can never think to buy one. I assumed ebay would have a load of them but no such luck. I actually bought my boyfriend one last year after his car had been "sugared" if that's the correct way to say it. He had to get a whole new vehicle and didn't want to risk having something like that happen again. I've heard that newer cars have a tank where you can get the gas out of it unless you take the whole tank off. Is this true?

I know how that is, I actually forget things alot too. That is bad when someone sugares a persons tank.As far as I know you can siphon gas out of all tanks.

I don't have one. If people want your gas bad enough I'm sure they'll just puncture the tank and try to steal it that way. People just will not stop at anything to get what they want. It's sad really that the thefts wont stop until gas prices finally drop.

Well, I guess that you are right, but they will have to go to more trouble to do that, so I will not make it that easy.

Yes, you are correct, the theft of gas is becoming a large problem because of the high gas prices. I don't have a locking gas cap but do plan on getting one, I should get one soon, I would be irate if someone stole the gas from my car. You are also correct about people being able to pry the door open to get to your cap, it isn't hard to do, from what I hear. It would be wise for all of use to get locking gas caps, in fact I think it would be wise for the car manufacturers to start making all cars with locking gas caps. Have a great day!

Thanks for your response. I too wish the car makers all would put loking gas caps on all the new cars, since gas is becoming more expensive. It is real easy to pry these gas doors open. Hope you get your locking gas cap soon.

My husband told me we need to buy some locking gas caps for our vehiles with the price of gas fuel thefts will start going up in numbers. My car is usuall parked right in front of my house though so it would be hard for someone not to see them.

Yes, my car too is usually parked right by my house also, but at times I am gone, that is when I am worried about people stealing it, you just never know.

I do not have a locking gas cap, but I will be getting one very soon. With the price of gas now and it showing no sign of slowing down, people had better be cautious.

Theft is rare out here in Wyoming, but it does happen. It is something worth considering purchasing, but for the most part, wherever my car is parked, it is not a high-risk area. Around here, prying open the gas flap is "too much like WORK" for most of the half-witted thieves. I have heard reports of the sales of locking gas caps has skyrocketed recently.... so even if I want to buy one, I may have to wait for restock!

Well you are lucky that you are in a low risk area. The people here are prying thse doors open, they say it does not take much work at all, it appears they know how to do it..
