I just started trying out the stock market with an advisor and it seems like gambling to me. In fact I've heard a lot of people say its just gambling. Strong shares I bought are on the way down and some random ones I bought are in profit.
Do you trade shares? Do you think it is equivalent to gambling?

Its gambling if you are a intra-day trader or short term trader. But if you hold shares for a long term say an year or more, then its investing and is sensible. Anything can happen in short term, any news can make the market fall. But in long term, past records prove, equity has been the most profitable asset class.
Even I am an invetor, and still believe in Indian economic growth. What has happened to the market now is a result of global reasons like crude, inflation, subprime issue, etc.
The latest share market movement is there on TV and many sites like www.nseindia.com, www.appuonline.com, www.ndtvprofit.com etc. Just keep youself updated and avoid short term trading atleast for now.
