Do you own a cat or two?

My precious cat is going on 17 years of age and my last one sadly passed away at 17. I am starting to become a little paranoid as she is getting close to this age but looks quite healthy as did my last one. She is family to me and dread the day she will no longer be around. Even though I did run over her many years ago she has survived (and the guilt of that was unreal). Can we be a little too close to out pets?

Oh I am extremely close to my dogs and cats! We have 2 dogs and 6 cats. We actually just lost one of our cats not to long ago, at the ripe old age of 20. And she was very healthy right up until the end...only in a matter of weeks did she really start losing health, and we decided she had to be put down :( She could barely walk...she spent 23 hours of her day laying down (not always sleeping). So you may actually have a few more years with your cat if she is still healthy now! :) Enjoy that time with her!!

Six cats.....wow that is quite a few! The most I have had in the past has been 2 and usually 1 dog but have had 2 in the past. For a cat to reach 20 that is amazing and obviously that would have hurt to lose her. I am hoping she will be around a lot more and yes better to enjoy them while they are around.....as whatever happens, will, I know!

The most animals we have had at one time was 4 dogs, 7 cats, 2 birds, and a fish lol. But we are down to 2 dogs now because last year, in a course of 6 months we lost 3 of our dogs. And the last remaining one obviously got lonely, so we adopted a new one. It's always hard to lose a pet, sometimes I don't think you ever get over it. Thanks for the best response! :)

That is my reasoning for having not just one of a kind that they get lonely and need company which is why we have an aviary of birds all with "partners" My cat did have company but my daughter owned him and took him when she left home, but I think puss was glad as I think he used to eat her food as well as his own, and the weight on him proved it. Now all is changed, he has thinned down and she is quite plump.

I don't think we can be to close to our pets. Most of the times are pets are just like are children and it hurts badly when something happens to them. My kids wanted a pet so I got them 3 month old kittens so they would grow up with them.

Bringing children up with pets is a great thing to do as they learn to nurture at an early age themselves and often the joy of pets can help in their developing. It is painful if we get to close to them when they are no longer with us but maybe all worthwhile as we have given them a good home and love which is all they need. Oh and a full belly! lol

I used to have many kittens when I was a kid. I had one cat at first. She gave birth to many kittens. That kittens grown up and then one by one I lost all. I loved them so dearly. Every day after coming from school, I used to play with them for half and hour or 1 hour. I was so excited to reach home. They are so adoreable. Now, I don't feel like keeping a pet cause the loss of them is unbearable for me.. But, I always adore the kittens for their cuteness.

We have to be close to our pets, they're family. I have a 16 year old female and I get worried when she sleeps too long sometimes, I find myself watching her to make sure she is breathing. I lost a cat 3 years ago to cancer, I miss him terribly. I do have many photos to bring him close to me again. We have to think that this is life, we lose people that are close to us as well.

I have two cats, one is mellow, and rather not be bothered, the other is full of personality. One year my husband decided to take our cat with the personality camping with us. I said NO, he said OH, Jake will love it. First of all Jake did not enjoy the 2 hour drive to the camp ground. Secondly, he was afraid after we arrived at the camp ground of the various noises, campers, motorcycles, trucks etc. For one full day, he would not eat, go to the bathroom or preen himself. I told my husband he was not happy there, my husband, says, oh he is fine, he will be okay. We had also taken our 5 year old god son with us. The second day we were there, my god son was not happy because we told he NO to what ever he wanted to do, so the child was crying and said he wanted to go home. So, my husband says he is going to take our god son home, I say, well you can take me too, because that year the flies were really bad, and I was full of bites. I said , get Jake, he says Jake wants to stay, I say, no he doesn't get jake, so now my husband is angry, he puts the cat in the cage, and puts it in the back of the truck. No one is talking on our drive, we were maybe 35 miles from the camp site, my husband looks in the back and says where is Jake. Jake had gotten out of the cage, needless to say, I was upset, I was screaming and crying, just thinking that my cat was probably road kill on the highway. We searched the truck, I'm still screaming and crying. My husband makes a U turn, and heads back to the camp ground. I was on the floor, because if Jake was on the highway I did not want to see it. We had to be driving 80 to 90 miles an hour. We get to the camp ground, and ask if anyone has seen a black and white cat. I am still crying. We get to our site, the lights are still on from the car. God is soooo good. coming out of the woods, who do we see but Jake. A priceless picture, my husband, me and Jake hugged together, us humans crying, Jake, what the heck is going on??? Jake got out of the car, somewhere, but his senses helped him know where to go, and he went to wait for us. So, I think this long story will answer your question. lol

Mosr certainly we can,our pets are like our kids in a way and we get really attached to them .The older they get the more scary it becomes the thought that we may have to be without them, but we have just one dog now and a cat that comes over to stay with us when he feels like a visit.

You are so lucky to have this little girl. We have one said to be 17, but we've only had her the last 7 years. She actually is in better shape than the 14 yr old boy that the roomie has had since he was a kitten. Love her as long as you have her, then go rescue a kitten or young cat from a shelter or a rescue group. Even better, get 2. This morning I was getting up and I had 11 cats in my room greeting me. I love these cats, and really didn't have hands enough to pet the ones that wanted petting. And in these 11 cats, I have 5 looking for new homes.

Oh I can understand how you feel Caramello as we adore our cat too - even if she is a cat with her own mind! I know I will be devestated, as will the rest of the family, if and when any thing happens to her! xxx

My Bigguy! - bigguy cat
I have one cat...his name is Bigguy and I got him from a woman who took him in after he was abandoned last summer. He spent 6 months in her basement because she already had 2 cats and 2 dogs who did not get along with him so she had no recourse but didn't want to send him back out into the streets. I've had him almost 6 months and he's having a lot of what I guess are security issues. He is afraid of everything and barely lets me pat him. He's a great cat though and despite him...I love him!

No , we can never be too close to our pets . All of my cats are called my little baby loves. Try not to worry because each cat has a different life span . My oldest cat right now is 19 and looks great and eats up a storm still. You baby will be okay and I am sure you will have many many more happy years with her.
