Voices from long ago....

Years ago when my grandmother passed away I took it upon myself to start going through her videos and cassette tapes...she had tons. Well, there were family videos which we split up...and then when I got to the tapes I had found some that had "mom" labeled on them. Well, after I got home I played those tapes....it was my grandmother and my great grandmother telling family stories....stories I heard them tell hundreds of times but this was so precious to me I packed them away. Well, a couple of years ago when I moved I found them again and played them. And it was wonderful to hear them talk and get off the subject as they always did...oh and to hear my grandmother laugh I could see her face and feel her hugs. It got me to thinking how sad it is that with all the technology we have some things, simple things like this, are lost and forgotten. And once in awhile I pull them out just to hear their voices and know they are still a part of me. I really want to find a way to record them onto CDs so I never have to worry about losing their voice. What is something you have found of those long gone that spark that memory of their life?

I wish I had a tape of my grandma. What I do have from her though is a wooden soap mold. She taught me how to do it and I still use her molds. I think about the first time we made soap every time, I make a batch. It comforts me in so many ways.

Oh what a treasure, that is so wonderful for the generations in your family in the future..yes you must put them on to a cd, I know here in Australia you can buy a Three in one cassette recorder rather cheaply, where it has a cd, radio and casette player...it would be worth buying one if you don't know someone that already has one...

I am not up on all the electronics but I have heard of an external CD burner not connected to the computer...so I might check it out. I am sure with what is out there now it is possible. ANd you are right, it is a treasure. And I hope if and when I have a little girl I can play them for her and tell them all the wonderful stories I have of them. Thanks for the info and response.
