The Smartest Thing I Ever Said:

United States

I saw someone's discussion tonight saying that they hate all non-white people. That made me remember the smartest thing I ever said.... When my son was 5 years old, he came home from spending the day with his grandfather, a person who disliked anyone who is not white. My son was in the bathtub that evening and he asked me: "Mommy, do you like black people?" I told him: "There are lots of black people in the world. Some are good, and some are bad..... There are also lots of White people in the world. Some of THEM are good and some are bad....I like the GOOD people." From that day on, he knew there were good and bad people in any color, and he has always looked for the good in everyone, just as I do.

I think you need to tell that to that bigot who hates all non white people. some people are idiots that will never change. I found his comment offensive and I am white

I know how you feel. I felt the same way and I'm white too. There's no sense in trying to reason with unreasonable people. It just doesn't work. All it does is make us angry and sick. It doesn't do a thing to them. So lets just keep moving on to the positive discussions and forget those mean ones are even there. They'll probably disappear anyway.

Its great that you are passing on good values to your son. Being raised in the deep south i have been surrounded by these types of people my whole life but yet was still able to see people as people not black, white, asain, etc. Thats why it has been so shocking to me the amount of racism and hatred i have seen since announcing/fund raising for my mission trip to Africa. More people need to be raised with the values you have taught your son.

Too good thought. I always like positive thinking. If we teach our kids like this they can judge the life by good & bad things & not by.........

Dear friend, I do hope this answer is better one for a kid, child and may be for those good people too, but those racist out there who do not get any satisfaction from this answer may be they are too sick to be cured. Let hope this colour discrimination may be soon be eliminated with better friendly and peaceful ways.

good day.. I'm Asian basically my skin tone is not white, it's brown, my eyes are not blue there brown, I'm not as tall but I sand up with dignity. My feature is not as sharp as any Caucasian but I have a heart just like everyone, Am I that different? Sometimes thinking that some white people hate the non white got me scared. Physically white people as well as black are superior than most Asians and with that kind of hate it's just get scarier. People like you is what gonna make a difference by teaching your children that morality is more important than skin color. I'm just glad that there are people like you.

The color of a person is not what makes the person who they are. It is the inside of the person that matters. And as you say there are good and bad in all races. So like the good people and stir clear of the bad people.

Well done, that inded the smartest thing to say. Its so very sad, that racial discrimination still exists and the elders who ought to wipe it off, are the ones who r infact passing it on to younger generations. But as long as parents educate their children with such good morals, these things are less to happen...

Yes, that is a very smart thing to tell your child. I read the discussion you are referring to, but I chose not to reply. He is obviously not one of the good people you told your son about.

I cant understand people saying that, how can you possibly hate a person for there colour. That is one reason children call black people names because they have heard others say they hate coloured people. You are so right about good and bad in all kinds of people, you have given your son a good start he will respect all people in life he will be a perfect person!

You are right,i agree with you.The children are pieces of clean white paper,so the words and actions of their parents' and other adults' around them will give them very great effects,so the right induct is very important.

I think that that was a very good way to explain to your son that people are people and that there is good and bad in all of them. Very smart, good for you! I personally wouldn't allow my kid around a man that hated a certain color, that's just ignorance that I wouldn't want to rub off on my kid...
