Am I bad for not doing this? Most have no best response selected...... Should I?

I occasionally get selected as a best response to some topics and of course this is a nice feeling to get when this does happen! It is then that I realize that I very, very rarely select a "best response" within the topics that I have posted. I DO mark positive to all people that make an effort to reply in a constructive manner; but I don't go back and select a best answer. If I were to go back through all the topics I have ever posted I reckon I would emerge out the other side maybe a few weeks from now with a glazed look in my eyes! It will take me forever! Should I go back and do this or not? Is it REALLY that important for me to do this seeing as some others do make the effort to mark me as "best response" themselves?

Hmmmm Several ways to look at this one. Some people go to allot of trouble to give what they may think is a good answer to a question and their reward is a BR. The competitive love this, it's the reason they get up in the morning! As you have experienced the niceness of receiving a BR, then perhaps giving is as rewarding. Bookkeeping - is part of a clean office, finalising accounts. Putting the filing in the right spot helps too. Unresolved discussions is like having a pile of files on the floor. Filing is an onerous job, usually people hire an office worker and pay them a pittance for this mundane boring job. But you feel very good once the files are in their right place and you have space on the floor to walk. Receiving BR also helps with peoples ratings so you could be doing them a favor. Giving means earning brownie points or karmic credits! Hmmm, or you can do whatever you like. Having choice is good like that.

"Karmic Credits!" I like that! I agree with your points and I AM making an effort to catch up with marking a best response. It is just taking me a while because of the back-log; and also because this is a site I spend only a few minutes or so on at a time throughout my week. Thanks for responding.

ALWAYS welcome Tetchie! I am happy to give someone a buzz with a best response "award" and also happy to see that some of my topics may be inspiring others to think, even beyond the shelf life of the topic itself!

Thanks James for the BRs to this and other discussions you've started. It has given me an opportunity to go over past discussions we've had. I've saved some of them as topics for further discussion when I get around to writing more. I write articles in Hubpages.com, or used to. Reading these past discussions has given me more to write about - like the squashing of desires due to cultural expectations for example. Plus I do get a buzz when I get BR, sometimes it can make a not so good day a better one.

I often times don't choose a best response, at least not right away. Many times the thread remains open because members keep posting. If members keep posting, it would mean you would probably have to go back and choose another best response. You can wait a while and then go back and choose if you want to, but I think it's more important to give the positive feedback to those who give constructive answers to your discussions.

I definitely mark responses with a positive if they have made the effort..... I have always done this at least! I am happy to be catching up on all of this and do agree that if members KEEP posting then it becomes a difficult task to choose a best response as you don't want to peak too early! My mistake was that I never made the effort to do this from when I joined 2 years ago! Thanks for responding.

It doesn't make you a bad person if you don't mark BR....but the other person feels nice when they get a BR...like I felt when you gave me one a few days back:) It was a pleasant surprise.

LOL! Yes SViswan! Yours was one of the responses I chose from the many I have to catch up on! I agree that it is a nice feeling to get a best response and if I can get through all of my "unresolved discussions" then there will be many more happy people with a nice surprise I hope! Thanks for responding.

I don't think that we're obliged in giving Best Response on every dicussion that we start. It solely depends if you really think that the user deserves it.

Yes I can agree with this point also. I have many topics with only one or two responses; I don't have to marke a best response just because there is only one! Thanks for responding.

Hey, cmon, return the favor! I go through my post every 2 days to ensure that i have gotten the appropriate number of responses, or lackthereof, then i pick a best response. Some people will only do a best response when something really catches their eye, which is fine too, as long as you do it sometimes...but then again you have the freedom to do as you please, but it really does feel good to get a best response, why not share that feeling?

Id say it is nice to give best response as people do like to receive them. But id say just start doing that from this point on mabey do a few of your old ones here and there but I dont think id want to go thru a whole bunch if you havent been doing it all along.

I agree. And there are some topics I posted that only have a single response too. I don't see reason to mark a best response just because it is the ONLY response! I will get there slowly but surely! Thanks for responding.

If you take a look at your left sidebar, you will see "my unresolved discussions"; those are your discussions awaiting a best response. You will keep on accumulating those until you give a best response. It is good to tie everything up with a nice ribbon and give someone else the satisfaction of a best response, which you yourself feel so good about.Cheers!!

I agree that I should be making the effort because yes; it IS a nice feeling when you get chosen as a "Best response". I am trying to catch up as best I can! Thanks for responding.

If it were me, I would go back and award those best responses. I have to do some of that myself. Thats not to say that you have to do them all at once though. I started at the back and worked forward. I worked on 10 or so a day so that I would have time for discussions as well.

I have started to do this! It is certainly going to take some time; but yes, if I tackle it a few at a time I'll get there! Thanks for responding.

I think you should do this... all of those topics are in unresolved topics saction and they will stay there until you select BR. If I am making any topic I'm always giving BR price. Now I have only 3 topics left without BR, but it's just a matter of time. Cheers and happy myloting.
