I discovered this amazing man while doing some research for another discussion I was considering on alpacas. Sir Titus Salt can be called a humanitarian among other things. He was born in the early nineteenth century in England. Conditions led to the family having to relocate to a town called Bradford where his father later brought him into the wool business. He is credited with bringing the alpaca to Europe and made the process of spinning the wool into garments a huge success. Sir Titus Salt used his success to better the lives of his workers and their families during a time when living conditions were so poor that the average life expectancy in that area was the age of 18. He was a pioneer in improving safety conditions in the workplace, and ultimately built a thriving community for his workers called Saltaire. He was truly a remarkable man who was ahead of his time!

This man knew how to accept responsibility, Aurone, as when he stood up for the common man despite his peers unwillingness to do so.He wanted a better life for his workers and that is admirable. He ventured into new territory in his work with processing alpaca wool thereby creating more jobs for the local people.

Ah, that is a good find. Titus Salt was a good contributor to humanity, especially at a time of poor health and deterioration. Very neat find on your part World. I may end up doing a couple of these type of discussions myself. Maybe.

That is so true worldwise! I watched a documentary about this man and the improvements he made for his workers earlier this year and thought then he was remarkable, the more research I did and the more I found out about him the more this was reinforced! Saltaire still exists and is now a World Heritage site! xxxx
