How fast do people drive on your street?

Where we live the speed limit is 25 mph. Our road is VERY steep on one end (so steep you feel like your car could tumble forwards!) and level and narrow the rest of the road. There are several families on our street with small and teenage children. People here drive like it is the freeway. There is no way they are going 25 mph. There are many times I'm afraid I will get killed just trying to turn in and out of our driveway! It is not a busy street, but the people who drive on it drive like maniacs! The neighbors have complained for years about it but no one has done anything about it - not even the cop who's family lives down the street from us! What about you? Do people drive too fast on the street where you live?

No, not where I live, but I know what you mean. I heard about a neighborhood watch program that talked with the police station in their town, they got one of those speed limit things that sets on two wheels, like the kind you see in a construction zone, and it would make people slow down when they saw it. There was a group of people who would write down license plates of those going over 15 mph of the posted speed. You might try that, other than that I would borrow some orange cones from a construction site, that color sometimes makes people slow down.

We have tried the cones with no avail. My hubby thought about installing his own speed bumps, lol but I discouraged him from that since I'm sure the township wouldn't be too keen on that! We did have one of those speed signs for awhile but it really did no good because it was on the flat side of the street and not ours before the hill.

Same at my house as far as the speed limit. The younger drivers are in such a big hurry to get where their going that they fly by. It really is annoying. I really am cautious about pulling out into the street and crossing the street to check the mail.

the speed limit on my road is 90 km an hour but I bet most people driving down my road drive around 110 to 130 km (thats crazy fast)

It's scary how fast they drive! I don't understand it at all! I don't think it is even younger drivers in our area - seems to be just about everybody!

Pretty much as fast as they want! There are maybe three cars down our road a day and one of those is the mail carrier!

Sounds like you live in a nice place in the middle of nowhere! I would love it if we only had 2 cars on our street!

Yes it is nice. We live on a cattle ranch in SE North Dakota. We have more wildlife traffic than human traffic!

yes people drive crazy thru out my whole neighborhood. but along my street its a straight shot so they are able to give it all the gas they can. it is very surprising no accidents have happened bcause of how fast they go and how close they get on someones tail when theyare turning into there driveway. we've had the speed limit check machines in our neighborhood numerous times that doesnt help either. One day people will learn when they run head on into people and they gethurt that they need to slow down and they need to back off of peoples tails. if ur running late it is not the person in front of you's fault at all.

You are very right - the speed check signs have done nothing in our neighborhood either. It always seems to take something bad to happen before anyone thinks about changing, it is very sad.

Usually, we are just fine. Sometimes we are not. On snowy days, we can get people sliding off into our yard. We are on a curve at the end of the street, so the snow can come as a surprise to people who have been doing just fine driving straight on the rest of the road.

That would be scary! We had one guy once turn around in our front yard like a maniac once before - I thought for sure he was going to hit my son who was playing innocently in the yard a good 10 feet away from the street or our gas meter!

Yes! They zip up and down our street day and night. We don't have alot of traffic so the speedsters stand out. If I am out walking the dog and I hear them coming I just stop and stare at them...some times I even yell at them to SLOW DOWN! Years ago there was a teenager living down the street and I guess he felt it was his duty to drive like a bat out of hell. Our kids were little then and it used to make me really mad. So my husband who is a teacher and saw the kid at school stopped him one day and said, "Ya know the neighbors have reported your license plate number to the sheriff's department and I just want to give you a heads up that they are gonna be patrolling around the area so you might want to keep your speed down". The kid was really appreciative and will never know that my husband made the story up!

That is amazing how that story worked! My neighbor has fun yelling at the drivers since she is almost always outside and has kids with her.

my street have a limit of 60 km/h all the way and many people don't abide to it... they are just too impatient and want to drive faster... i don't know what they are rushing for... my hubby also sometimes do that and i always scold him... it is so scary and dangerous... also, if you get caught by the police, there will be 3 demerit points and $250 fine at least.. that is a waste of money... take care and have a nice day...

I wish our police here would enforce it - a law is only good if it's enforced, otherwise there might as well not even be one!

the people who live on the street themselves will not drive fast.. we all know that almost all of us have small children in our homes.. we have our children walk to the nearby school.. but 'others' who dont live on our street but go through street do drive very fast - that we had to put bumps/humps to slow them down... i guess it worked.. because they either have gone slower.. or used a different route

My hubby wanted to make his own speed bumps but I wouldn't let him, lol. I was afraid the township would come after us!

It is probably said by some that I drive too fast on the street where we live. However, there are no children in our neighborhood and I like to build up some speed before getting to the hard part of our hill, because I don't like to have to shift gears. Also our driveways are far enough apart that I am quite certain I am not imperiling anyone. So while I sympathize with you in your situation, I have to say I have no complaints about the people who exceed the speed limit on my street. It is the people who run into things that disconcert me.

I know what you mean, a lot of people drive like maniacs. I feel for you. I live in a quiet residential street and don't have that problem, but my back lane. I don't understand why people have to drive so fast when they go down the back lanes. They have children too, and they should know better. My backlane is just dirt, not paved, and with all of the rain we are getting, it is a mud hole but it doesn't stop people from racing down it and splashing all the other cars that are parked in their yards, with mud. The other day my daughter and I went out to the car to go shopping and you couldn't see out of the driver's side window it was so covered in mud. The whole side of her car was covered and we had to take a cloth to the window just so we could see, to go to the car wash. Some people are no respect for others.

That is terrible! When you are driving fast there is no time to stop and react, especially if a little kid or pet would jump out.

I have the misfortune of living by one of the busiest' thoroughfares in tustin and they zip by doing fifty miles an hour easily. the residents of our apt complex sometimes' have to wait as long as fifteen minutes just to get abreak in the traffic so that they can get onto the road. One has to wait for a traffic light to change and even then it does not always help that much. they drive much too fast.

hey then i suggest that yo people start looking for a solution right away. i believe the best solution for this problem is ask you municipality to put a speed breaker there (that is what we do in India).

The speed limit on my street is 30 mph. The street is wider than most neighborhood streets and it is an easy, straight cut through between two major streets in town. So, of course, people like to speed down it. But we were finally able to get something done about it. Finally the town stepped up and put 'speed cushions' on our street to slow people down a bit. We had several things working in our favor to speed the process; we have an elementary school on our street, and a police substation and public library at one end of the street. I feel for you. It is frustrating to have a situation like you describe and not get any done about it.

In the U.S. you figure out how fast virtually all drivers go. Here is the basic math. You take the posted speed limit. Figure out what 60% of that is. Add that to the speed limit. Also add 10% of total speed MPH as a "me me me. I'm so damn important than you are" thinking bonus. Then add in 5 or 10 MPH due to the design of the road. 5 MPH for treelined and green median roads, 10 MPH for wide roads and freeway looking roads. That's how fast they drive. So to sum it up Vera U.S. driving = Speed Limit + (Speed Limit x 0.6) + (5 or 10) x 1.10 Okay maybe not the country entirely, but it sure feels like that in my region. So all in all, people drive and they drive too fast.

I am not sure of the speed limit in my street, but I know most built up areas are 30mph, but most people drive along at 10/20 mph as it is a very windy street and there is no way that people can drive along fast without crashing. There are also quite a few small children playing out in my street. However a few boy racers come up and down the street every so often going over the speed limit, I don't know how they manage it.

It is posted 45mph... but many people do 55-65mph!!! It's a rural road, wide open, but the county had decided that it is a 45mph road, which most people around here feel is way too SLOW.
