Your Biggest Fish?

What's the biggest fish you've ever caught? My biggest fish was a 37 inch northern pike that I caught using a frozen herring. It wasn't quite big enough for me to keep, as we have to throw back any northern pike between 30 and 40 inches. But... a fish that size (with the fight that pike give) is fun to catch!

That's wonderful news and I've got to admit that I envy you a bit. My husband and I have been married for more than five years now and God gave us a loving daughter for a child. My in-laws live in the province, about five hours bus trip from us here in the city. Their house is beside a flowing river. I would often see some of them and their neighbors go swimming and catching fish in the river. I myself have personally seen my in-laws catch fish and some types of edible seashells in the river. However, I really haven't experienced catching one. My husband told me that someday, he will teach me how to swim and catch fish using a fishing rod. Unfortunately, we lack the time to do this but I'm still hoping and looking forward to learning how to fish.

Fishing is one of those activities that can have its highs and its lows. You may have fish jumping out of the water for you, or you may sit with your fishing pole for a long time, just hoping for a bite. And there is a huge combination of factors that come into play for whether or not the fish will bite. If you're using the wrong kind of bait, at the wrong time of day, in the wrong depth of water (or part of a body of water) - you won't get anything! But when the fishing factors are all lined up - the right time of day, the right time of the year, the right kind of bait, etc. - fishing can be a lot of fun!

I once caught a sand shark that was between 3 and 4 foot long when i was 14. We didnt get a chance to measure it because as soon as my father realized what we had brought into the boat he hoisted it back over....lol It was fun fighting it though and even funnier watching my dad try to get it off the boat for fear that it would bite someone. We were in a 19 foot boat with 5 people on board and evidentally he didnt think that we had room for a shark too....lol Ive never caught anything even remotely close to that size again....happy fishing

You caught a shark! :) That makes my northern pike story seem kind of tame ;) LOL at your story; that's certainly one to pass on. I caught my pike fishing off of a boat dock. It had a few scrapes on it, so it looked like it had been through a fight or two (some have said that they get those kinds of scrapes because they try to swim through shallow water with branches...) They're not exactly a friendly fish, but they sure are fun to pull in... as I'm sure your shark was! :) Great story!
