You are desperate for some rice pudding, and all of the shops are now closed. The only can of rice pudding that you have has been at the back of your cupboard for a long time. In fact the tin is marked November 2007,so its out of date by a year. Are you going to try this rice oudding and risk its OK??? Or are you going to bin the tin in disgust???

I'll eat it and bear the consequences, if any. I can't bear throwing away food. I might not indulge if the date were say from about 5 years previously, but I'm sure tinned food is pretty safe so long as the tin isn't damaged in any way. I read somewhere that food which has a "use by" date is unsafe past the given date, yet food which is marked "best before" is still OK to eat...just not in its prime. Did you eat your rice pudding?

come on,you can not afford to take such a drastic step. of course you should throw the tin to the bin, but never in disgust. it was probably not destined to be eaten, there is a global or rather heavenly clock which is the sole architect behind all these. but taking an over-confident or foolish step does not make any sense. so throw it and have something more delicious. or else, lie down till the dangerous feeling passes away.

I would open the tin of rice pudding and eat it. As long as the tin is not dinted or damaged it will be perfectly fine. It may just not taste as good as it did before the due date!

I'd try it! Rice lasts forever, and I doubt the pudding part of the mix would go bad in less than a year. The expiration date is usually just a 'sell by' date, so things are usually good a little while after that date. (I just checked my pantry and the sell by date on the rice pudding I made last week was 2006! ) I'm adventurous, though!
