Wedding attire etiquette question

I've always been told that you shouldn't wear white or black dresses to a wedding, though I think the latter restriction has slipped away in a lot of cases. But I just want to double check. I'm heading to a friend's wedding on Friday, and right now I'm thinking about wearing a black skirt with a colored top. Do you think that's acceptable wedding attire? I mean, guys can wear black slacks, so it should be okay, right? :)

Absolutely, a black skirt with a colored top would be very acceptable for a wedding. I think the old fashion rules are pretty much all gone now. I think it may have been and may still BE that if, for example, the mother of the bride or the groom were to wear all black to show her displeasure with the marriage, now that wouldn't be appropriate at all!

It probably also helps that less and less brides are wearing "traditional" wedding gowns. In this case, my friend is wearing a gorgeous light gray satin gown with black lace overlays and detailing. It's going to be stunning!

A black skirt is fine to wear to a wedding. I think the anti-black thing went out of fashion a long time ago but it doesn't matter in your case because you're not planning to go dressed as Elvira.

Nope, wasn't planning on that. :) I'm pretty sure I don't have a good Elvira dress, anyway. :)

At my daughters wedding last year there were a lot of women wearing black ,black mixed with different colours,and it looked good.I was borught up to feel that it wasnt the done thing to wear black at any wedding,but its become popular now.The young women were wearing black with coloured accessories and it looked very smart.The men often wear black ,so its not a great thing for them.When we were children my mother would have gone to the ends of the earth to stop us from wearing blavk,we were not allowed to wear blavk of any kind,even shoes.they had to be brown.
