Stephen Mansfield, who's book, "The Faith of George W. Bush," spent 15 weeks on the New York Times
bestseller list in 2004, is now writing a book entitled "The Faith of Barack Obama," which is expected to help
Obama win some evangelical Christian voters away fro the Republican party. What is it with Mr. Mansfield?
Is he an opportunist for the popular candidate of the day? An opportunist for good timing for bestsellers? Is he a turn coat?
What do you think?

I think he is an author. Authors who specialize in biographies write about whoever they think will sell books. It is not opportunism in the negative sense, it just about business. Who would want to write a book that does not sell? It is too much work to risk no return on the time invested.

He knows how to choose his topics to sell books. I think that is a big part of it.

Religion doesn't have a political party, so I don't think he can be called a turn coat or a traitor. However, I do think that he's hoping to get just a bit of that attention that Obama is getting. People are deeply locked in personal debates about Obama and McCain, and I think that any bit of information or analysis that comes out right now will do fairly well.

I think the focus of the article was more about potentially swaying fundamentalist religious voters, many of whom tend toward voting conservatively. Religion may not have a political party, but it does has a demographic identity when you're talking about votes.

Well, Barack Obama says he's a Christian so I guess Mr. Mansfield is writing about Obama's Christian faith. O.K. he's probably out to make a few dollars along the way. Books about politicians seem to do very well. As for recruiting evangelical voters, I don't think that's gonna happen. They seem to stick to their party.

All the presidents we've had have claimed to be Christians, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, etc.,
etc., so I guess Obama is as bookworthy as any of the others. As for recruiting evangelical
voters, most of them won't choose Obama because of his extremely liberal agenda.
