Do you use your Pinky Finger often? How did you last use it?

The Pinky finger is the last and smallest finger of the human hand. It is also the least often used finger. I notice that when I hold or grip things (like bottles and cups), I do not use my Pinky finger at all. I only use 4 of my fingers. Is it only me or do you have the same habit? I also do not use my Pinky finger when I type. I wonder if there are people out there who use all their fingers including Pinky finger to type. Even though I hardly use my Pinky finger, I still find it useful. The last thing I did with my Pinky finger was to make a Pinky swear with my cousin who is 5 years old. She made a promise to me to eat all the vegetables on her plate (she really hates vegetables). How about you? Do you use your Pinky Finger often? How did you last use it?

I do use my pinky quite often. Most of the time it is for typing. The finger is so nicely positioned at the shift key, the A key and the enter key. I cannot imagine how I am going to type at the speed I am typing now if I do not use my last finger. I am sure we also use the last finger for a lot of other things. It is just that we are doing it so naturally, we just never really took notice.

Ah... that you are so wrong my friend. I have a buddy who could type faster with his two fingers than I could with all my fingers and toes on the key board. When that guy types, his fingers are literally a blur on the keyboard! You will be amazed at how fast he can type with just his two fingers. Then there is my sister. She can type faster with her thumb on the hand phone keypad than I could on my keyboard!

I would have to say I use the pinky finger the most when I type. The number 1 and the q, a, z are all pinky finger keys. The the 0, p, ;, ',/,? are also pinky keys. That is when I would have to say that i use the pinky finger. Now when it comes to holding a cup it's not really used but can't say that it's not needed. You would have to say that it helps with the gripping of the cup. I just tried holding a cup and removed the pinky finger and the other four fingers did the work. Now this is just a thought; if you didn't have a thumb the fingers would have a harder time functioning without it. If you try to hold a cup and you release the thumb. You will drop what ever you have in your hand. That i didn't try cause I would have made a mess. Have a good one.

Amazing! My Pinky finger has no strength to type I think our thumb is very important. I wouldn't try releasing my thumb while holding a cup too. I'm sure it will drop too.

Today I tried to hold something without using my thumb and I was able to hold it with my other three fingers. Not using the pinky either. But it felt funny trying to do that, yet it was possible. But if those fingers where not there it would be a little different. Have a good one.

Yes i do use my left pinky finger to type "a" but i don't seen to use the pinky finger of the right hand while typing. The other use of my pinky finger is to notify some one that i need a bit more time to finish some thing, but to convey the proper meaning you need a particular facial expression aswell... The third thing i can remember is while we used to play cricket, i used to do leg spin bowling (the act of giving spin to the cricket ball in order to deceive the batsman) and the pinky finger helps to give the ball a final rip before leaving the hand, infact it plays a big role in spinning the ball. see the picture http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/41952000/gif/_41952962_leg_spin_416.gif

Wow.. holding chopsticks? writing? How do you do that? I rest my pen on my third finger. I rest my chopsticks on my 3rd and 4th finger. Unique way of holding things.

Because i'm left handed, and so my holding method is slightly different.. As for holding of chopsticks, my father taught me the wrong way when i was young and thus, i'm stuck with it..lol

I use all of my fingers when I am typing including my pinky fingers. I use them when I am holding a glass or cup, too. I have seen people who drink without holding their cup with their pinky finger, and I sometimes think they are going to drop it. I am using my pinky fingers now while I am typing so it hasn't been a long time since I last used them.

Haha.. that's good. I must learn to use my pinky finger more often. It's becoming a habit for me not to use it.
