Smacking children

Do you agree with parents smacking their children with an open hand either on their bottoms or hands as a form of discipline or do you think that there are better alternatives that could be more effective in teaching children how to behave when they are disobedient?

I do not think you should ever hit anyone. Adult or child! There are so many other was to discipline a child. Time out or just explaining to the child what they did that was not acceptable so they don't do it again. Who wants to be hit? No one I know!

I believe there is a big difference between hitting and smacking. The intention and reason why a parent spanks is important, children pick up on the emotional meaning of things more than we realise.
