During High School, have you ever....?

Spoon - One of the household items (the others include umbrella, glove, and walking stick) that if accidentally dropped should only be picked up by someone else, or bad luck, or an argument, or a visitor, will follow.

A servant dropped a spoon, and as she made no attempt to pick it up, her mistress told her to do it. Without speaking, the girl left the kitchen, but soon returned with another maid who performed the duty. The one who dropped the spoon explained her subsequent procedure by saying that if she herself had picked it up she would have met with some dire misfortune. (N&Q 11s:10 (1914), 146, 196)

More generally known nowadays is the belief that two teaspoons in one saucer, or one basin, denote a forthcoming wedding, although occasionally it is held to mean twins on the way. In common with many other domestic superstitions, the earliest known reference to this only occurs in the later 19th century (N&Q 4s:10 (1872), 495).

Hello to everyone! While I was eating at home, I looked at how I held my spoon. Then I tried holding it like a knife, like someone whose is in some kind of fight. Then I tried holding it like a pen which got me thinking again of high school. My lunch was either prepared by my mom, my elder brothers or mostly sisters, or myself if they're all busy with something else. Well, whoever prepares it, one thing always stays the same, the spoon that I use. I always get it when my lunch is done so that I can pack it in my bag when I'm ready to go to school. It was always that spoon all through my last years in high school for some reason that I can't distinguish myself. I guess some of my classmates would have their special pens, an ID strap, glasses, bag or perhaps anything else that they kept during their high school days since it was special to them. For me, it was that spoon. Now that I have already got over high school and as well as college, I couldn't find that spoon anymore.. How about you guys? During high school, have you ever had something special that you kept all through your high school days? Could you recall why it was special to you which got you to keep it during high school or, if your lucky, up to now? Thank you for sharing!

I remember how I met my high school girl friend... Having a girl friend during high school in itself isn't that special but it's how we met... I remember towards the end of my freshman year in high school coming out of the cafeteria after lunch, I stepped on something... I look down & I see a small little pair of dice... I picked'em up & the dice were gold in color... I didn't think much of it & kept'em in my pocket... I don't know why but I hung on to it & carried it with me all the time... Following year, in the beginning of my sophomore, I was sitting on my desk in study hall being bored... I took out those dice & started playing with'em... A girl, I didn't know who she was, turns around as if the noise of me rolling the dice was bothering her... Then when I looked up at her, I noticed she was staring at the dice... On my way home after school, she catches up to me & says, "Hey, you remember me? I'm in your study hall?" So we started talking & it turns out that she came to my school towards the end of previous year after her parents split up... Those dice were given to her from her mother as a lucky charm... She tells me after loosing them, she cried almost for 2 month... I apologized & offered to give them back to her, of course them being hers in the first place... To my surprise, she told me "Keep'em... May be you'll be my lucky charm!!!" She's been my girl friend ever since to my college years...

That story certainly can be published as a book you know? A good film perhaps too Thanks for sharing something romantic like that ^__^

Well, as I have said, the romantic story that you shared is quite unique and not like the typical ones with a happily ever after ending. It is still nice and I'm glad that your relationship with the high school girl didn't end with just memories but, you still keep in touch. It would be a nice twist to realize that your story abandons the usual story line wherein the initial acquaintance ends up together but instead, goes with realism and character realization then, finds themselves settled with different paths while still keeping close ties. It doesn't always have to be generic to be romantic

To this day, I still have them dice... She would not take them back when we broke up... Our relationship ended in a good note... We're still friends... She tells me now & then to this day that those dice served their purpose & may be they can bring me a good of a luck as they did for her... It is very flattering & good of her to tell me that... When I'm feeling down, sometimes I look at those dice & think how I've made a small difference in someone's life for the good helps me feel better... She was & still is a very special person & we just had different ideas as we grew up & we've decided to go our ways... My current girl friend knows about her & trusts me, and her... They're even good friends now... Even though she(ex) holds a very special place in my heart, my current girl friend knows that she's the only one for me... I'm lucky to have such a wonderful & understanding girl friend... As far as making it out to be a movie or a book, lol, I wish... I guess it wouldn't work because in typical romance movies, we would've been married & happily ever after, eh? But nice thoughts... Thank you...!!!

The only thing that lasted me through the whole of high school was my skirt. I bought it when I entered year 7 and wore to the end of year 11 as I never got much wider through the years and I would roll it up anyhow, so the length getting shorter was not a problem. I got new everything else at least once a year and unlike you I did not have my lunch packed for me, I got £2 a day and bought a sandwich while I was at school.

There was a year during my high school that I had to prepare my own lunch by myself as my other brothers and sisters did with their's. I guess that was when my mom and those that have already gone to college went abroad to help out a relative. at least you were still getting new things every year. I always had to inherit things that those before me used like books and even the uniform since we were all attending the same school that time. Your versatile skirt and that £2 a day for that sandwich you buy at your school, nice

hi ratyz! heh.. you're a little weird ratyz. you're the only one i know who treated his spoon so special during their high school days. ^__^;; as far as i can remember, i didn't treat any of my things as special than my others things or as a lucky item. hmmm... i guess the things that i treat so special during my high school days are my diaries and photo albums. my friends and i used to exchange pictures and i used to use a wallet full of pictures of my friends. ^__^;; and then, i have a lot of photo albums too where i store a lot of our pictures in every activities at school. i used to put captions on them and my friends would laugh about it because the i wrote the captions as if i was teasing them. and then there are my diaries. i have a lot of them during my high school days. ^__^;; but i never bring them at school. never. i still have some of them now. i threw the others away.

Well, I can't help it if the spoon struck more into my memory than anything else that I could think of while eating.. I see, diaries and photos.. even turned a wallet into a photo album as well? I'm more of those who takes photos and not among those who are taken a photo of.. but I do like taking pictures even if none of them have me in it. As long as its a good scene some good classmates that I later on become friends with. I use to write a journal on my part.. well, a few months until it ended tragically but, that's how it went for me.. Thank you for sharing, secretbear!

Me and my friends kept notebooks. There are 4 of us that had them. We each had our own notebook and we would pass them around to each other to take surverys or read up on our "high school drama". Anything and everything were in our notebooks. Rating teachers, crushes, parents, everything. No sercets! My the end of my Senior year I had like 10+ notebooks!! I would spend hours and hours writing in those things. I lost a few of them when I moved down in Florida. It's like a journal. It's funny to look back at what my friends and I was thinking back then. Those kept me sane in high school!

I used to keep a sketchbook with my classmates messages on it but I have actually thrown it already because I actually don't want to remember a lot of bad memories so I threw it away and besides it just takes a lot of space in my drawer. I still keep one thing though a keychain from my third year retreat. It's special because it reminds me of the good memories during high school.

When classes were over during my high school days, we'd go to a video game rental shop and we'd play that Dance Revo game using dance pads. It was like a routine that we got into when it got popular even on television. If it wasn't that or the hype went down, we'd either go at billiard tables and play a few rounds. Yeah, some things that we don't expect just happen, like restrictions and policies that inhibit us from doing what we enjoy.. Indeed, they were fun.. Thank you for sharing

I think I have seen one of those before during my elementary days and indeed, it was quite awkward to write with since the size isn't as usual as the other pens that we've gotten to use to when we write. But still, its special 'cause it was given to you by someone special to you as well. Have a nice day, yogeshdhusa!

Unforgettable memory to you, indeed!I have no idea about the special things I kept during my high school days, may be a book,I think.I still can call its name" the winter of the second year in college".The author used humous and simple description to tell his college life, which attracted me much at that time.I read it in the book store for several time and almost recite it.That was not enough,I bought it finally. Now it is with me when I am working in another city. There is no reason to take a fancy to anything after entering society.Everyday is full of tiredness.I miss the time in school,at least I was enthusiastic and hopeful to my future.

So that book helps you get back on such feelings that you had during high school? Being enthusiastic and hopeful for your future wasn't really me during my high school or anything before n'or after it.. I think my mind wasn't really into something.. not goal oriented as others may say.. Hope you can get over each day of that tiresome societty.

Sad to know that I never have or keep something or any thing during my high school days as my remembrance. Though those wonderful memories during those times are still in my mind. Those were the days, now I finished my college already and have a job abroad, soon my eldest daughter will enter high school, hope she enjoy it also as much as I did...

You don't have to necessarily keep something from your high school days. I've related the item of mine and I don't even know where it is anymore. I'm just asking if you have any special item that stands out for you during those high school days of yours. Just the same, most of us have nice memories of our high school days Hope your eldest does indeed enjoy high school... you and your family are living abroad?

what i remember when i was still in high school was that when im one of the silent shinobi but the blood runs within. what i mean was that im silent but then i must have done bad things a student could do. cutting classes. abscences. flying on mars while the teacher was talking. laughing on teachers. go to school when high or drunk. rock `n roll was what i call it. i know, whats so special about it? .. is that i made friends out of it. i know its stupid. i may regret having those bad red numbers on my cards, but i think its worth my life. as for me. life has been my prospect subject. :)

Hehehe, You pretty much remind me of that college classmate of mine that I really enjoyed being with. She also did those things you enumerated and also hinted the same propect that she prefers as her subject. I also got introduced to numerous people because of her. Made my college experience very memorable which often got me attending classes with intentions of really hanging out with her afterwards. Thank you for sharing something special

I don't think I have anything that special when I was in my high school days to last four years. But I think I have things I enjoy keeping in every year of my high school. For the first year, there was my binder, which I had drawn on with lots of colors. I'm so proud of it. In my second year, I have this piece of paper where I wrote all my songs that I myself have written. In my third year, I think it was a pieces of paper which I have stapled to make a notebook of. Written in it are my tips on how "mamilosopo" or play pun with words. In my fourth year, I don't think I have something. That's it!

I am still in my high school years, and my unique and special thing happens to not be my glasses, but my glasses case. It has got to be the most random thing that ever existed. I started out by storing some money in there one day, for no reason really, it was just that I needed somewhere to put it. So I did, and found out that it was quite a handy place to store things. That year when I got my student ID card, I decided that should also go into my glasses case since I had nowhere better to put it. Eventually a bunch of lucky items started finding their way into it. That year at thanksgiving I got the larger part of the wishbone (Wish still hasn't come true) so I threw it into there for good luck. Then I put in a quarter that I thought of as lucky for some reason or other. Then I found an Indian on a tootsie pop wrapper, and threw that in there as well. One time my cat disappeared for a couple of days, and we were all very worried. We love our cat, me especially. I found one of his hairs (not really hard to find XD) and put it in a plastic bag and into the case. Thus it started to have more sentimental vallue to me, even after my cat returned. My glasses have never gone back into the case, and now the case simply sits in my backpack, as I homeschool now, filled with interesting things, probably never to be opened again. No one ever knew of my glasses case, except one random person who I don't really know, so it's my own little thing. I have no clue what to do with it now though.

I'm glad that you shared something special like that here in this discussion. It's more like your glasses' case is special, aside from not being used for its purpose to carry your glasses, because it bears all those other special items that are significant in your life. You've enumerated quite a good number in fact which makes it special. Your still in you high school years? Enjoy it while you can

Well, I spent my highschool days with lot of excitments and exultation but I dont find anything that stayed with me in my highschool, Yes, it should be anything, like my pen or bag but I used to exchange it with my siblings. So to be very honest, It was nothing about what you stated, in my life during highschool time.
