Why haven't I seen any topics on here about scooters?

I mean, as far as gas prices go if you don't wanna do a bike or ride a horse, it's pretty much the halfway point between cars and those. They get better MPG too. Sure, some of them are kinda cutsie and some of them are even a bit dorky, but as far as practicality goes...these seem to take the cake. So, would you or are you considering getting a scooter or some sort of moped? If you are, what kind in particular do you have your eye on? Personally I'm hoping to save up to buy myself a honda helix. I didn't originally set out, hoping to get a scooter. I wanted a mini cooper or a prius. But those seem less practical in terms of saving money. Especially since scooters and the insurance you gotta get for them seems to be cheaper, especially if you get them second-hand. What do you think about scooters? Do you think we'll see more of them as the economy flails about? Try to keep things nice folks. TI hope folks don't try to harass people who do like them. *has seen some of that lately* _ I've been seeing flocks of scooters in my city lately. Everytime I go out now, and their numbers are beginning to rival that of the cars these days. You don't see any hummers or SUV's anymore either. It's rather amazing. So how about it folks?

Yes, but how practical is a conveyance with a roof that leaks, and a heater that doesn't work, in a country where the winter temperatures can fall below zero F.? Have you seen a scooter with skis? I've never seen a car with skis either, but 4 snow-tires seem to do quite a good job.Scooters are a sunny-day substitute for a convertible car, and can be very dangerous in icy conditions. In an accident a scooter is a sure and swift way to get to heaven at an early age.

It depends on the model. Three wheel scooters are by far the safest in the winter. I know a few who commute on them in the winter, as long as you know what you're doing, are mindful of the weather, have a windshield, and dress warmly you're fine. Mopeds and scooters are not synonymous and not all makes and models are alike lol. An accident on a scooter to me, seems a bit safer than an accident in a car. You've a better chance of flying off instead of getting crunched. Not enough people drive scooters in the winter for there to be reliable statistics, no. It's not advisable to drive in a white out, of course, nor is it advisable to drive when the roads are iced. Whether you're in a car or not. I'm not saying scooters don't come with their own challenges, and it's far easier when you live in the city, with a scooter, than anything else. But when the economy's gone insane... Personally, I'd prefer horses over a scooter. At least then, you have a warm body in the winter. I'm rather hoping that scooters will become enough of a trend, that the companies that make them will make them more viable for most living conditions instead of just managable. Progress in technology never comes without interest first, sadly.

They wouldn't be very practical for winter here in North Dakota, but I have heard a lot of the dealers way that they're sold out of them and have a waiting list for more. Provided you didn't have a long drive to work, they would probably be fine here. We are seeing a lot more people making their ATVs (four-wheelers) street legal and licensing them to drive around town or from the country into town. We're seeing a lot more golf-cart use around neighborhoods too.

Well they might not be the coolest vehicles on the road, but I bet their owners are laughing at the rest of us when it comes to filling the tank! I wouldn't look at a scooter myself just because it wouldn't be terribly practical for a family, but I don't have any objection to them other than that.
