What's up with cable tv connections?

Cable tv still connected! - tv cables

Six months ago I switched from Comcast cable to directv but still have Comcast for internet and landline service. I have a tv in my bedroom that isn't hooked up to either service but there is an old cable in that room. Last night my son noticed a cable wire behind my desk that isn't connected to anything and one of those splitters that I guess is connecting my phone and internet to Comcast. Out of curiosity we connected it and turned the tv in the bedroom on and lo and behold it picked up the comcast cable stations!! I immediately made him take the connections off because I could just see Comcast at my door or it being added to my service and I don't need that! My question is when I had the cable part of it taken off why didn't they disconnect that service too? Don't they realize that I could still get it? Was it just laziness on their part not to take the cables and turn it off? Any ideas?

Seems like they forgot to disconnect it. If that is the case, use it! They won't even know you are doin gso. It is their fault for not disconnecting it.

I've heard that the cable companies have something that "sweeps" around to detect illegal connections so I don't know if I want to take the chance.

THEY left it on; for you to take advantage of that is not illegal. There really is now way to track spliced cable. If there was more illegal hook upd would be found. 99.9% of the time, splices are found because people complain about their quality.

cable companies are lazy. my grandma had cable and she decided to take it off so we did well the cable was still connected to the tv and she was getting some cable channels for almost a year and then one day poof the channels were gone she never recieved a bill and even if she did i wouldve fought it because we had all the paper work stating that we disconneted and when they picked up the boxes so theyve wouldve lost that battle, they are mororns.
