How do I save even more?

I don't like to spend a lot of money. Scratch that. I LOVE to spend money. I just have this nagging voice in my head that politely yet annoyingly knocks when I think about spending and asks me if I REALLY need whatever it is that i am looking at. Most of the time I sigh and say, "No" and walk away. We have a cell phone but my MIL pays for it- says we need one "just in case". Otherwise we wouldn't have one. We don't have cable or satellite. I want it but I know I don't NEED it. Inside-my-head-knocker tells me so all the time. In the past year I have spent a total over less than $150 on clothes for the ENTIRE family. Mostly we get hand-me-downs from family and friends. When I do buy I am very very cheap and picky. Our house is FILLED with donations from family. A lot of it we are very grateful for because we needed it. Other things, not so much. Like that third book on relationships. Really didn't want that. But we have never bought a large piece of furniture. I comparison shop at the grocery store and buy in bulk when there is a really good deal and I have the money. Soda is almost always generic when I do buy it. We do splurge on fast food. Our phone bill is never more than $25 a month. We have basic telephone service with no caller id, no call waiting and our long-distance is disabled with a passcode that no one (including ourselves) knows. We have energy-efficient light bulbs. We turn out lights we don't use. We never set the heat too high and the a/c only goes on when we can't stand it anymore. And then it doesn't go too low. We do a lot of energy saving things in our home, when we can. We splurge a little here and there, like when I take my shower and stay in for 25 minutes. My boyfriend and I agreed that we cannot life-diet without cheating a little somewhere (for fear of it backfiring or course), so we have our monthly spending habits. Mine is Blockbuster Online and his is Everquest 2. So I am asking how a cheap-o can get cheaper. Where do you save money? Any good tips I might have missed? What are your favorite frugal ideas?

I wonder this myself all of the time. I read those articles that say "how to save money" and I can't use a single tip because I never spend that money in the first place! (Like they say don't buy a starbucks everyday, I don't even know the last time I bought something from starbucks!) I recently bought all new clothes for myself, my kids, and my hubby because everything was starting to fall apart or didn't fit. I spent a total of $100 by going to thrift stores and buying them super cheap on the clearance rack. I was actually mad at myself for spending that much, especially since some things cost $5 (What happened to clothes being 50 cents and a dollar? I couldn't find that ANYWHERE!) I really have no tips, but it makes me sad that our world is filled of so many things that many people can never use enjoy or try because of money.

haha I know, right! I read those a lot too and I can check every one off as something I already do. Secondhand stores have started raising their prices like everyone else. You can only find the truely cheap stuff at yard sales!

If you have things laying around the house that you do not use, like an extra relationship book, look into selling it on Craigslist.org. You might not get top dollar for your stuff but some money is more than what you are getting by keeping it in your house. You can also look on the site for odd jobs that people need done. There is also a "free" section so the next time you need to make a big purchase, look on the site first to see if someone is selling it cheaper or is giving it away for free.

We have so much stuff in our house. I usually end up giving things away after trying to sell it on Craigslist or my local Yard Sale sites without success. Every so often I will sell one or two things. I am a big fan of Craigslist, Freecycle and others like them. We actually have never paid for any of the furniture in our house. It has all been given by family, friends and sites like that! I have checked out a few of the jobs but nothing good has come up in my area yet.

Do you have a budget written down so you can see what money you are bringing in and what you are actually paying out? That is the first step. Do you have any debt..mortgage, car loans, credit cards, personal loans, student loans? My husband and I went through a Financial Peace seminar by Dave Ramsey. It is a great way to get your finances in shape! I can help you walk through it if you need help. Blessings!

We actually don't write out budget down because we spend all of our money as it comes in on bills- car, house, electric, gas, water, sewer, trash, phone and groceries. Instead of budgeting I just try to figure out how to lower each bill without making it cost more in the end. I have succeeded in almost all aspects! But I'm still looking for more.

Life can be as good on a budget, there does not have to be oodles of money spent to enjoy yourself. We cut back on as much as we can and save as much as we can, which is not a lot for the most of the time.We use as little power as we can and have a landline but we have mobiles but do not use them.We rarely eat fast food,we are not exravagent people at all.
