Wendys. After this scare with salmonella, how long will it take you to be comfortable eating tomatoes again?

I'm perfectly comfortable with it. It never bothered me in the first place because of this very simple reason: I WASH MY FRUIT AND VEGGIES BEFORE I CONSUME THEM. With soap and water, no less. If you rinse well, there's no reason not to use soap. So yeah, I'm fine with it. I feel sorry for the people that were dumb enough not to follow basic hygiene practices in the first place. So for those, here's a big fat HERE'S YOUR SIGN just for you.

can you be certain that restaurant management and staff follow the same protocol? Most of the people that became sick did so while eating out.

Good point, but I also don't eat at restaurants with a health score that falls below 92%. Personally, when I go out and pay our hard-earned money for someone else to cook for me, I want their kitchen to be at least as clean as mine. Restaurants get closed down for very good reasons, and in this case of the tainted tomatoes, I feel like the responsibility of medical bills absolutely should be paid by the restaurant, not the people that got sick from them. But individuals should wash fruit and veggies, regardless.

Since I live in Tennessee and our tomatoes have been deemed as some of the safe ones, I didn't stop eating them.. But since they cost so very much, I can't really afford to eat as many as I would like to have.. We really have the best tomatoes, if they are from Granger County, something about the soil..

Now , I am not usually a fan of them , but I think I could eat those kinds . I just never liked the store ones . The ones from local farmer markets always seem so much better.

It was a scare. My mom, dad, and sister had just eaten out there. I was just glad I was smart enough not to get any tomatoes when I went to the store the day befoer this scare. They just didn't look right, my husband was mad cause I didn't get any for tacos and such but after he heard about this salmonella scare he was glad I didn't, because it would have been wasted money, they pulled some tomatoes from a few stores around here. It just makes us wish and want home grown ones. This year we didn't plant any saddly. It will be awhile especially since their is the question, Is it over yet? and What's next?

I don't eat tomatoes that much generally. Because I heard that tomatoes are not good for those with history of stone problem. I don't know if that is true. But I thought it to be true so I avoid.

I would be fine, so long as I'm told that the tomatoes are safe.

Thankfully I have never been a fan of them , so I don't have to worry . My mom loves them and has been staying away from them , and knowing her she will another month just to be safe. I don't think you have to worry anymore now

Last night instead of buying raw tomatoes, I purchased diced canned tomatoes. I didn't do it because I was fearing...but rather, just being safe rather than sorry. It seems as if there are a lot of happenings with our foods and now it is uncertain what we can feel safe about and what we can't. So...until then, I guess the safe thing to do is to cook our foods and not eat them raw.

I don't eat them anyway. My daughter however loves them. I don't think it will take me too long to start giving them to her again. I have one in the fridge from Arkansas right now, but I was waiting to let her have it until I knew that Arkansas did not have any affected tomatoes.

You can't be scared because then you wouldn't be able to eat anything. There has been so many scared between fish and beef to lettuce and tomatoes. But I"m sure it's going to aways be in your head. You can always grow your own :) I didn't hear about the tomatoes having salmonella....it didn't happen where I live.
