Will as Captain of the Flying Dutchman

I just don't know how Will could end up as the captain of the Flying Dutchman. I know it was the only way to save his life, but i just watched Dead Man's chest and i just can't picture Will in that ship. I just think that he'll be a much better and kinder captain. I don't think he'll go around whipping every other pirate in the ship, and most of all i refuse to think he'll become a sort of mollusk-fish-person and grow seaish like all the other pirates on the ship. Do you imagine Will with a tentacle face like Davy Jones? Do you think that he'll have to go around calling the cracken and collecting men's souls? Is that the job of the captain of the ship or do you think that every captain can do a different thing? What do you imagine will become of Will as captain of the Flying Dutchman?

I agree it is just plain weird that Will became the captain of The Flying Dutchman, and even though I have only seen At Worlds End once, and I think if Will could he would find away to save all the souls on The Flying Dutchman, especially his father.

He kind of did. I think that if he's able to resease his father from service than he can do the same with the others. You see, he's captain indefinantly. The crew of the Flying Dutchman can't vote Will out of the captaincy. The only way he won't be able to continue as Captain is if someone steals the chest from Elizabeth and kill the heart. Then that person has to become the captain of the FD. However, just so we have historical facts all squared away. Pirate ships demonstrate democracy at its best (well, in my opinion that is). A pirate ship has the right to vote on any issue that is important to the ships crew. This includes what sort of targets (usually it's the Spanish ships carrying gold fromt he new world) or if they want a new captain or not. The ships crew also voted on how to punish a man if he kept some swag. All swag is supposed to be brought to the main deck with the rest of the swag to be devided up equally among the men. ANyway, I think marooning was the punishment for that. All that I am trying to say is that the crew can't vote Will out of the Captaincy. Because of Calypso's rules and all that rot.
