I always save my change, I once saved over a thousand dollars in change. I had a big water bottle and would drop all the change I had on me at the end of the day. You would be surprised how fast it can build up. Presently, I have about ninety dollars in change, tucked away in a large coffee can. How many nickles and dimes do you have??

YES WE DO!!! LOL By the end of the month, we have like over $4 in change! LOL That's a lot to us though, compared to what we get throughout the month if we didn't save the change.

Hi sudalunts I don't empty my change at the end of the day, but I do save all my pennies. It does build up. I think I have about £3 in there now. take care...

That system always worked well for me too, until I had kids. There is always something kids need change for: vending machines, ice cream trucks, the school store. Maybe I will try it again when they grow up and leave home and I find new hiding places for the change I am saving.

That was a good way of treating your children, without having to break dollar bills.

I have a shoe box that i keep under my bed. Once I get enough change I will put it in money rolls and head out to the bank to get cash

Good idea. Do you have the automatic coin counters in your area. You wouldn't have to manually roll them, the machine counts them for you, and most places it is free. I know at some supermarkets in my area, they will charge you x amount of cents per dollar. At commerce bank, it is free. Not sure if there is a commerce bank in your area. check it out

I do. I usually toss it in a can, but now have set up some coffee cans to sort it out in. I have saved a lot of money doing this. You never notice change, but it builds up quick. I don't know how much I have right now, but a rough estimate would be about $100. I had to use mine a couple of months back for an emergency, but it's building again. I'm saving for a vacation next year. I'm hoping to be able to pay for it with just my change.

Great idea, hope you save a bundle by then to enjoy a very nice vacation. Saving your change is money saved that you wouldn't miss, that's what makes it so easy to do.

I used to put all my coins in a piggy bank (except for pennies) and after a few years, I rolled them up into those paper rollers and had $400. It all went to pay off bills the very next day, but that certainly was a help. I haven't been doing it lately though since that time I cashed in my coins. But nowadays I rarely carry around cash with me anyways and everytime I have change I use it towards a cup of coffee. But I would love to start doing it again.

You would be surprised how a small amount of change, little by little adds up.

i can't think of a reason why we should't... it's still money and has value.. but i don't save it like you do.. if it's just coins, i use it the next day or when needed.. before, i save my quarters in a water bottle.. and when that's full, donate it to church.. i don't do that anymore... need to find another bottle.. hahaha..

I don't always empty my change purse into the "pot" now, but I used to when I was working. I never saved very much because I was a single mom and every time I'd get my jug about half full of mostly pennies some "emergency" would come up and I'd roll pennies to pay for something. LOL when I lived in Nevada I'd save my nickels. My "me" time was going to the casino and playing the nickel slots for a specific amount of time, or until I lost all the nickels I'd brought with me.

At least you had the nickles for the slots, and didn't need to take money from your budget. Good idea!

Yes. When I was younger, I have this big piggy bank where I would drop what's left of my allowance in school. Got a lot saved on that piggy bank. I still carry that trait now. I save my change and put it in an empty pringles container.
