Do you want to work in Saudi Arabia?

Jeddah - There are things that a person need to know if he/she wants to work in Saudi Arabia. At least one can have an overview on what would it be like working here. Not like before when I first came here in Saudi, I never knew anything about KSA, so i was a bit shocked when I arrived here and really long to go home but since I need to earn BIG for my family, I stayed.

Perhaps some of you wonder what it would be like, working in Saudi Arabia. Well for all those aspirants or those who dreamt of working here, I can provide you some inputs or rudiments about working in the Middle East. First of all, the concept or perception (just as what I thought when I was still in the Philippines) that what one can see in Saudi are only desserts, camels, lambs and the thought that there’s no water here is wrong. As you can see, the photograph I posted was taken from part of the city of Jeddah, a very nice view of one of the biggest, attractively modernized and wealthiest cities in the Middle East. Anyway, I just conferred to you an idea how Saudi Arabia looks like now a days, its cities (especially Jeddah and Riyadh) are definitely one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Economically it grows at a surprisingly rate over the past years. Many people from western countries are coming in for work and business, not to mention the millions of workers from different parts of Asia that includes the more or less 2 million overseas Filipino workers who are scattered in almost all regions of the Kingdom. Now to give you an overview about our life in Saudi as OFW, I will start by describing how we carry out our day to day living here in a fairly different or distinct place. Working in KSA normally comes in a package. Aside from your basic salary which is absolutely tax free, we are provided with free accommodation, food, laundry and transportation (shuttle or bus, others are provided with their own car) to and from the workplace. We were also provided with soap and tissues as well as coffee, milk, tea or juice (for free) at the office which is rare to happen when working in the Philippines. Our daily routine (which I find it tedious) starts from taking our breakfast at the mess hall (the setting is really like a restaurant with people serving us), a coaster or bus will then take us to our workplace. At 12:00 noon we will be taken to our camp for our lunch break and return back to the office at 1 pm. The same thing happens at dinner time. Imagine this will be happening to you every day? Since Saudi is not an open country, we cannot just roam around anywhere anytime we like just as when were in the Philippines though we also have scheduled shopping trip at least once a month. Their mores is much different than us, and we have to follow it to steer clear of problems. Work timings normally start from Saturday to Thursday from 7am to 5 pm, with Fridays as rest days. Some companies allowed or required employees to render overtime which really give us a chance to earn more. Contracts range from a one year to two years renewable, with an average of 30 days paid vacation every year depending on your status and to the company you are in, some gets 15 paid and 15 days unpaid every year, while others get 45 days paid vacation. NOW MY QUESTION IS, DO YOU WANT TO WORK IN SAUDI?

It was never in my dreams also Teena. But destiny brought me here. For the second time I was given the opportunity to at least earn more than what I earned in the Philippines. This is the only consolation I have. Thats why I am also thankful to God for the chance for I know there are a lot of people who wants to work abroad or work here in KSA but are not given the chance. But if you ask me if I'm happy with my condition here, then the answer is NO.

Possibly you've just lost your motivation Long and you're not sure what to do about it. Don't prolonged your sufferings,re-design and re-build your career according to your changing desires throughout life. You can do it, despite what obstacles lie in your way.

As I read it ,I was just thinking how much I love my job he he !I guess I'm happy that my job involves me doing what I do best . If your heart is really set on Saudi, you will eventually discover the meaning of your existence and once you have done that, the passion inside of you will fuel you until you fulfill the purpose of your existence. If Saudi is not for you and you want to save money -a good alternative is Korea.

You must be very happy with your job. You know, if you ask me if how hard my job is, I would tell you its even easier than a work in a municipal office in the Philippines. You are not pressured, because theres no deadlines for everything, I can do a particular job whenever I want. As along as at least I am updated with my files including my digital files its okay for me if I just surf and surf to the internet. But you see I am not happy with it. It's very hard to love this kind of job especially with difficult people around. I hope i could get the chance to work soon in Dubai or Singapore or even Canada. I am not familiar with Korea that much, I knew that most of the OFWs there are factory workers.

It sounds to me that you are really homesick my dearest friend with the detailed schedule of yours. You are asking if I wanted to work there? Well, my answer is a big "NO". I will feel like a prisoner not doing my shopping. LOL. I'd rather work in Canada. I will be reunited with my husband and I will not feel lonely. I know your plans Long, all I can say is "See you in Canada".

Yah, see you in Canada! Actually life here in Saudi is different when you are in big cities and especially when your whole family is here. I can see its better than the life that I have and all other single male and female workers.
