Yes, it is true. General Motors is going to produce an electric car. It will be all electric, not a hybrid. This sounds like a big mistake to me as the thing will only have a 40 mile range and it uses super expensive lithium ion batteries. At least it looks really cool! Check it out here. http://gm-volt.com/ Sounds to me like this is another eye wash car. It looks sharp and sounds good, being electric and all that. But really not that practical. I won't buy one. What's your opinion of the Chevy Volt?

Looks real cool, but will it truly help to save the environment ??

Yes, this car would help the environment by being recharged mostly during the night when power plants have to be running but are way under utilized because people are mostly asleep. This means this electric car not only reduces the need outright for gasoline, it would help us use existing power plants more efficiently.

I think a good eletric car would a good idea, but this car just is not it. 40 mile range just will not work. For an electric car to become useful to most American it would need to be able to drive for about 200 miles or so. Most cars can excede that on one tank of gas, but 200 mile range would get you where you need to go. You cannot just recharge a battery as fast as felling up a car with gas. So charging those batteries will be an all night project. Also where are we going to get all of these new electricity? Before we start putting out all of those electric cars do not you think we might need some more electricity. Electricity is not like gas, you just cannot pump more of it out of the ground. Electricity has to be produce.

I agree with everything you say here. I hope GM is not counting on this car saving its bacon. I don't think this car is the one to do it.

Cute little toy for people who live places where they dont drive much. Better than driving a golf cart on the streets. Cost of the batteries will be a shocker when they need to be replaced. Not for me though, I need something that can go farther and handle highways and steep hills when needed; but, it is a start. The first automobiles weren't much better; but, they have come a long way since they first came out. Something to keep an eye on in the future.

This car is not for anyone with a practical side. The thousands of people on the waiting list are probably the only people who will buy one.

This is not very practical, especially in the rural areas where 40 miles or more could be a normal round trip. $40000 is a heck of a deal especially with that limited range, but I think I will pass. What about sale oil and offshore drilling? How about using our resources instead of being subjected to economic terrorism by OPEC? How do the democrats explain this mess we are in because of their repeated opposition to using our own resources for the last 25 years? Oh that right.... it's all Bush's fault.

Yeah, a thousand dollars per 1 mile of range. That's not too good of a deal. As to it being Bush's fault, he has lot's of oil business friends, you know!
